    Bill C-6: Senate stage

I did - the question RE point of order is not 'out of scope' or not --- the cons proposed an amendment that reverted the repeal proposed in C-4. Sen McCoy believes that one cannot revert the bill once it passed the 2nd reading, so she asked the speaker to rule on that. The pending decision has...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Ohh, they can. It takes that long partially because they can. Senate rules are more flexible than the ones of the HoC. With the leave of the senate, a senator can propose almost any amendment. That's why we saw Omidvar's amendment (which was ruled out of scope at HoC), then the language...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Senator Jaffer adjourned the debate in her name - it's up to her now when to speak. Assuming that she supports C-6, this will happen sooner rather than later.

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Guys, there is no more "delay tactics" - they have allocated time for the bills C-4/C-6. They will have to vote once this time is up. Regardless the amendments/discussions/votes the vote on C-6 will happen at the end of allocated time. We have waited since June last year - can you wait another 2...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

You must realise that the agreement to allocate time for the bill (and thus to speed up the vote on C-6) was not reached simply because cons decided to give up on their position. New amendments will be proposed/voted, but it will happen in a timely fashion.

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

the senator must move the motion first, they suspended to fix the text of the motion (cause he cannot move it otherwise). After that they may debate it, and after that vote.

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

I think she is extremely nervous :) As a speaker she must do everything by the book, and it's very likely she does not know all the rules (you can hear an assistant constantly correcting/helping her)

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

I think it might be safe to assume that all future amendments to C-6 (assuming they are 'agreed' amendments) will be accepted as well.

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

It just another 'hint' that they already agreed on everything regarding C-4/C-6 bills. Now they will just spend some time debating to save their faces :)

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Since they reached the agreement on time allocation, it's extremely likely that they agreed on which amendments are going to pass.

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

relax :) it's just the vote on language amendment (not the bill)

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

the speaker is not present in the chamber, so it's either the Speaker pro tempore or any other senator chosen by the senate.

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

You can completely trust this tweet. What they have just announced is that they are going to invoke the senate rule 7-1(1) (time allocation to gov bills). However, the leader of the government must move a motion to formalise this agreement.

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

So it looks like I was right about the motivation behind cons performance last Thursday - they did have negotiations about the C-4 and C-6 and reached the agreement. The only question, why did not the libs try it earlier??? It would have saved us so much time...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Honestly, this is the argument I cannot understand at all. It looks like people trying to cover more 'selfish' reasons, such as convenience of Canadian passport. And there is nothing wrong about such 'selfish' reasons, but I think we need to stop painting C-24/C-6 as life defining bills. "Many...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

So far the 3rd reading has been delayed by two amendments - both of those amendments were proposed by independent senators appointed by Trudeau. Those amendments gave conservatives an opportunity to delay, and it would be stupid for them not to use such an opportunity. It's the 'job' of...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Not Cons - independents. The amendment was proposed by senator Griffin (she was appointed by Justin Trudeau on November 10 last year).

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Total speculation on my part, but I think that we might actually see some progress on the bill. The senate is known to have a lot of behind-doors agreements between involved parties, and I believe that's what happened in recent days. Here is some 'evidence': 1. Omidvar supported cons amendment...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Your understanding is wrong. If HoC rejects the amendment, then the senate must agree to that rejection.

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Why does everyone think that the bill will now go to the HoC? The senate is not done with the bill yet. The bill will go to the HoC ONLY if it's passed by the senate in the 3rd reading (and the version passed by the senate is different from the version initially passed by the HoC). For now the...
