ARC - "Authorization to Return to Canada" - is where you had a previous refugee claim in Canada that was rejected. Immigration asks you to send a letter explaining why you should be allowed to return along with a certified cheque/bank draft for $400 CAD processing fees. We wrote the letter in...

Some strike news: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/diplomats-escalate-job-action-to-15-largest-missions-up-from-three/article13464577/ They basically say that services have been withdrawn from Mexico City all along - one of the three big ones they targetted first. Because...

So the embassy has our PGR now... I'm thinking we have 2-4 months to go depending on if they ask for Authorization to Return to Canada (ARC) or anything else. Does that sound about right?

Just wanted to add to this. I've heard of people who have successfully submitted the PGR in Spanish without an English or French translation. We decided to translate it just in case. Why did we do it? When the Embassy emailed us asking for the PGR certificate, we noticed this bit of fine...

We should be able to pick up our PGR in about 10 days and then send it to the embassy via FedEx or DHL. =)

Hey folks - where do we go to get the PGR police certificate? I thought you had to do this at the PGR office in Mexico City but my husband is confused because the website says if you live outside Mexico City you apply for the federal certificate at your state office...

Keep in mind: - CIC said a bare minimum level of service would be maintained during the strike. They're probably sending in highly paid consultants to keep the lights on. (This is ironic because the unionized workers want better pay.) - The strike action is rotating from different embassies...

We weren't asked for anything other than the PGR certificate. The request letter is going to arrive early next week via courier!!! Wooooo! Class of '13!!! ;) This is bad news, though I don't see anything about a walk-out in Mexico City. I assume the "slowed processing of visas in Mexico...

Frida we're in the same boat as you. Just crossed the three-month mark since our application was sent to the embassy. I'm told 3-4 months is pretty normal... so exciting!!! We're in the same "generation".

    New release on "foreign strike"

It's not necessarily individual employees... it's the union as a whole that makes the decisions. London is probably a warning shot meant to get people to blast the Treasury Board before other larger embassies get dragged in.

    New release on "foreign strike"

I think the foreign services union is expecting people like us to get fired up and complain to the Treasury Board so they will get their pay increases. But this makes me really angry because they are essentially holding our relationships for ransom. GO BACK TO WORK! No one cares that you get a...

    New release on "foreign strike"

Thousands of people on this forum care! I'm kind of torn... I want the Foreign Service union to end the strike ASAP but am not convinced the Treasury Board should give in to their demands... they're complaining about making less than other gov't employees but their salary range is already...

A recent news release from the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers: http://cnw.ca/lbj8 It says services have been withdrawn at a number of locations, but not Mexico City. Mexico City IS one of the locations that will be doing "information pickets" sometime this Spring though.

Wow this is some crazy news to come home to. Just got back from a vacation with the hubby.. totally amazing and reminded us what we're fighting for. We're a few days away from having waited 4 months for AOR. 13 days ago we did get a reply to our enquiry in which they said they received the...
