Is PhD stipend from a research grant taxable?

http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/E/pub/tp/it75r4/it75r4-e.html#P56_8869 Paragraphs 11-13 should give you an idea of whether it's treated as a scholarship or research grant for tax purposes (depending on the primary purpose of the funding). If it's scholarship and it was received in regards to...

    Income Tax Filing

She doesn't have to file a return, but if she has any unused credits that could be transferred to you, she'd have to file for you to use them. So if you have income that you will pay taxes on, you'd benefit by her filing (because you can use her base credit of 10k).

    Inland Application 2011

What are you planning to study once becoming a permanent resident? Have you picked out a school? I'm sorry to hear about your estimated wait...did they give a reason why?

    help

You should look into travel insurance. I've used Manulife and Blue Cross Canada personally. Never filed a claim with Manulife, but did with BCC. They only reimburse up to what the government would pay for treatment of a resident, and for places where doctors can charge visitors anything...

    Inland Application 2011

I believe it's only after the second stage actually starts that they'll request the medical exam if one has not been completed already. If a person is called to an interview before a stage 1 decision, it'd be because they question the validity of the relationship and need more proof.

    Labelling photos

I don't know how specific they want you to be, but in our application we wrote who was in the photos, the date, place, and occasion. Ours was a long distance relationship, so we organized them by trip.

A quickie about letters of support

I've read instances of people sending unnotarized letters with their applications with success, but I don't know about copies of original letters. Are applying as conjugal partners? If so, you may want to err on the side of caution with as many original notarized declarations as possible...

    Returned application/lost documents

I think they're asking for you to re-submit the entire application, and specifying that it should be shipped together (as opposed to shipping it in separate packages, even if they're mailed at the same time).

    Inland Application 2011

I can definitely relate to how you feel (as many others probably can, too). Immigration is stressful enough without the limitations of not being able to work, travel, drive, etc. I'm sorry you're having such a rough time...it'll be behind us all soon enough.

When to start application for wife?

I might be mistaken, but I think you'll also need to prove to the best of your ability that you'll move back to Canada when the application is complete.

May I ask how long it took for the Montreal office to contact you after receiving your DM letter?

    Can I move Provinces...

I think the only situation when it *might* matter is if you were moving to/from Quebec, because the requirements are different (applicants in Quebec have to be 'selected' by the province). Someone more knowledgeable might be able to say whether it'd affect you negatively to move while waiting...

    Inland application ...please help

Yes, he'd re-enter as a tourist. Also, as long as you encounter no problems, he could use this opportunity to extend his visitor record (that way you save the fee of doing it by mail). When my husband and I re-entered Canada, we passed through the border with no problems (the agent didn't...

    Inland application ...please help

I'm very sorry for your family's loss. Unfortunately, I think it's luck of the draw whether an applicant can re-enter the country while an inland application is being processed. I've read instances of people being refused at the border (from a visa exempt country like the U.S., even when...

    2012 Quebec Inland Applicants

I think not being able to get coverage until AIP is consistent (people who get RAMQ without it probably have some other kind of permit affecting their eligibility). You're able to when your permanent residency application is being processed (which isn't processed until stage 2). It could be...

    Inland Application 2011

When you originally submitted your application, had you completed a medical exam and background check, or were you waiting until they requested them? I had sent both in with my application (the background check was sent to me by the FBI sometime in Feb 2011, and my medical exam was performed in...

    Inland Application 2011

I received my DM letter in the mail today - the eCAS changed on Saturday, and the letter was issued on August 15 (they started Stage 2 June 18). Do any of you know how long it takes to be contacted by the Montreal office? This has been an exciting week, I hope the CIC's productive streak...

    marrying my american fiance

As far as entering the country to live, I think it depends a lot on whether you intend to apply inland or outland. I entered Canada as a visitor and we were honest with the immigration officer about my intent to move here with my husband and apply for permanent residency from within Canada. I...
