Thread on applying for official records of U.S. border crossings?

I'd be immensely grateful if someone here could point me in the right direction for an interesting thread that I saw somewhere on here several months ago which dealt with how an intending citizenship applicant can go about applying to the relevant authority (either Canadian or U.S., or perhaps...

Apostille (US Dept. of State) required on FBI police cert.?

Does anyone know whether CIC/IRCC requires that an applicant for Canadian citizenship submitting a US/FBI police report/certificate ("Identity History Summary Request") with his/her citizenship application has to go through the extra step of having the FBI's letter apostilled by the US...

Citizenship new rules application making form and document ready

I actually, finally, & at very long agonising last, ultimately completed my 3yrs yesterday (yippee!) & I will have my 183 days for 2017 in a couple of weeks' time. I gave notice at my grunt survival job here yesterday, & am heading down to the US to have my fingerprints done for my US...

About counting residence before obtaining PR

Nope. Nothing prior to five years back from the date on which you sign & date your citizenship application will count, at all, ever.

Citizenship Question for Seniors ( Post C6 Implementation fall 2017 )

Ya. All absences from Canada will count against your total days spent within the borders of Canada. So one has to have all international travel records, such as passport stamps, boarding-passes, etc. If you're like me and never throw such things away, then you'll have everything that you'll...

Citizenship Question for Seniors ( Post C6 Implementation fall 2017 )

Yup. Provided that the 3/5 rule is actually up-&-running when you get back.

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

No, I believe you can leave Canada safely once you've fulfilled the requirements to be able to apply for citizenship and have lodged your application. Just have to have someone watch your mailbox for official correspondence and be ready to fly back for test date(s) & for the oath/ceremony.

Citizenship Question for Seniors ( Post C6 Implementation fall 2017 )

Given the uncertainty of the exact implementation date for the 3/5 rule, you ought to assume the most conservative stance at this stage, as I've done, and just stay focussed on getting up to the full 3yrs of physical presence as a PR. I reach my full 3yrs on Friday this week, and it's a nice...

Citizenship Question for Seniors ( Post C6 Implementation fall 2017 )

Hi. I think you'd have no problem whatsoever renewing your PR card; just have copies of work permits & tax notices. If you do apply for citizenship in Fall 2017, then any time spent in Canada before Fall 2012 wouldn't be countable (i.e., at the half-day rate for pre-PR); but with your 840...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

It's amusing to read an apologia on behalf of the CIC/IRCC bureaucrats who, after all, have only had two years of knowing that this Bill was an election promise and was in the pipeline and that they ought to be getting ready for its effects. McCallum wouldn't have led the Department so...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Yup. Let's just think positive and start getting all the documents ready for Fall. Does anyone know whether the police certificates (e.g., USA/FBI) can be dated BEFORE the implementation date of the 3/5 rule? Or is there some stupid 30 day rule of validity/acceptability for police...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Yup. If Minister McCallum were still in charge of CIC/IRCC we can be pretty sure that he'd have implemented everything on Canada Day, even if a full 12 months on from the actual Canada Day he'd meant back in early 2016, haha. Minister Hussen is obviously a bit less than stellar leadership...

    The requirement for applicants

I assume that it means that the applicant has to remain of good character all the way through the process, and not to find him/herself charged with or convicted of any felonious offense anywhere in the world. The applicant cannot lose years of physical presence during the processing of her/his...

Citizenship Eligibility :: 3 out of 5 years

I believe that the 3/5 will mean that the applicant for Canadian citizenship has to have been physically present as a permanent resident within the borders of Canada for at least 3 x 365 days, all of which days will have to have been during the last 5 years. So if you're at 3 years now (as I...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Just out of interest, does anyone know if, under C-6 (& CIC/IRCC's regulatory interpretation of the Law), if when one claims days of pre-PR "temporary residence" for the purposes of claiming qualifying days of physical presence in Canada, if claiming those days opens one up to being...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Hi spyfy. So very many extraordinary thanks to you for all of your fine updating efforts over the agonising course of this precious Bill through Parliament. Like you, I've had absences from Canada too, but by my reckoning my full three years of residency in PR status will be fulfilled next...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

The dope legislation is advancing quickly presumably because there will be thousands and thousands of dope-smoking Canadians actively contacting their MPs' and Senators' offices to push for its rapid consideration. As previous posters on here have remarked, the offices of MPs and Senators do...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

Let's keep our combined eyes on the ball here, fellows. Senator Jaffer and her office/team put in an extraordinary amount of effort on our behalves in order to advance C-6's progress in the Senate after it had become quite apparent to everyone that Senator Omidvar had absolutely no idea what...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

The Prime Minister needs to give a short sharp tug on his new Minister's leash to arrest his self-aggrandizing attention-seeking 'African-made-good' world tour and tell him to get his arse back on a plane to Ottawa to go in to bat for the Government on achieving Bill C-6's passage asap, as it's...

    Bill C-6: Senate stage

I believe that the whole Canada Day significance was actually first specifically alluded to in 2016 by Minister McCallum himself. But of course he was referring to Canada Day 2016, hehe.
