An affidavit might not work because Canadian HC know how easily they can be made in India. So its best to have a BC from your local municipality.

thank you for the idea...there is process for old marriages that are not registered, but the process is very cumbersome to the fact that applicant need two witness who should be in the marriage pictures. 40 years ago in India not all marriages had photographers.

I applied on same dates as you have and heard nothing until now....the status just shows on CIC website as "In Process". Would you recommend calling CIC?
