You can drive in Canada with your Indian driving licence for the short duration that you are in Canada. As long as your Indian driving Licence is in English you dont need an International Driving Licence

Unfortunately it doesn't work for me in New Brunswick. I can't insure a car in NB without a Canadian licence and I can't get my Canadian licence until I get my COPR. I can drive a hire car, but that's the best I can do.

You can get an ON driver's license. Get an official translated photocopy of your driver's license from the embassy/consulate of your home country first - it'll help.
