Indian Driving Licence validity in Canada for new PR

I am a new PR of Canada doing a soft landing in Toronto for 10 days. I have an Indian driving licence from 10 years.

1) Do I have to apply for an International Driving licence in India for the 60 days that I can drive in Canada or can I just show my Indian driving licence as it is?

2) If International DL is required, then what is the procedure to apply it in India?

You can drive in Canada with your Indian driving licence for the short duration that you are in Canada. As long as your Indian driving Licence is in English you dont need an International Driving Licence

Oh really ? Is this also applicable to other country driving license ? Short duration mean how long is it ? Thanks

As you have determined as a new PR you can use your country licence for 60 days in Ontario and if not in English advisable to get an IDP from your home country. The 60 days only counts when you take up residency so not including your soft landing.

Different provinces have different rules by the way for drivers licence transition for new PRs

For your 10 day soft landing you could probably get by with the visitor rules for driving Without an IDP

and what is the procedure to get canadian driving license once you are settled in say Ontario...i am having a UAE driving license which is having a validity of 1 year and Indian driving license which is 7 years old....please advice me the steps to follow....should i take an International driving license ...are there any exemptions whatsoever....

Any new resident with a driver's licence from another province or country must apply for an Ontario driver’s licence within 60 days.

There are no exemptions and an IDL is not a substitute.
