If they knew some Russian or Ukrainian instead of just saying 'plz plz sar', they could have dealt with those officers more effectively and increased the likelihood of securing their spots on the train. Besides, your embassy should ensure and coordinate safe evacuation of its citizens from Ukraine. Poor local people barely manage to make it to the neighboring countries let alone foreign nationals.
