Haha, it's still normal here in the Philippines, especially in the province. My cousins there normally have a family of 7 (2 parents + 5 kids), if one or more of your parents comes from the province, it's not uncommon to go there and find out a community is blood related to you.

That was normal in brazil as well, but I think it ended in my mother´s generation. My mom had 3, her sister has 6, others 2-3. While in my generation in my family, we are all 20-35, and only 2 has 1 kid at this moment.
In the cities here yes, but the provinces still hasn't gave up the tradition I guess.
True, living my whole life in the city, I guess I can't claim to know how it is in rural areas here as well. The country is probably the only thing keeping fertility levels "okay".
Actually its not okay lol. our levels is the same as the US, considering its a developing country still, so not many will come to immigrate, and our social security is crap.
Wow so that means Brazil's population is actually on the decline then, maybe it'll stabilize out at some point. Our's are still growing, so no need for immigrants yet. Good thing, cause I doubt we'll attract any at all.
Lol If they can take care of the kids without depending on social benefits, I think it’s a little jackpot for Canada though in terms of economics. Second generation immigrants and people who immigrate as kids tend to do much better than their parents and on average more than the median wage. It probably trails off in the next generations but the second gen kids are more well adjusted to the country’s system and they kind of have this extra pressure to perform well imo. That’s because they’ve seen their parents work to settle in and get their stuff together. I’ve seen that from people of asian/South American descent at least. 5 kids making 100k per year in the future is great tax revenue
I don't know whether you are from Philippines, Filipinos are really nice people and hardworking.I would be happy to move to Philippines if it was like Mexico ,only reason I didn't try to move to Mexico because I don't know Spanish. Mexico also nice people.
Second gen. are the best for growth. They gain education from a developed country, with more opportunities, but still has perspectives from their parents that life isn't easy, like some lazy citizens, who take everything for granted.

You cannot compare Brazil and its sense of community with any country in the world. Brazil people are incredibly social and friendly. This doesn't get highlighted enough.
I wasn't talking about friendliness though. I was saying the culture of having big families in brazil drastically dropped in one generation. fertility rate is currently similar level as developed countries, which intakes high level of immigrants to make up for it. Its one of the lowest in latin america.
I am from the Philippines, and Mexicans are relatively richer than Filipinos, we only have a third of the average Mexican salary I think. While the provinces in the Philippines can be quite peaceful, the problem is that the industry is very limited, and not as diverse, not to mention poor social infrastructures. If you live in the city, well be prepared since Manila is the densest city in the country, imagine a 13.5 million people living in a city the roughly the same size as Toronto, not GTA, just Toronto.
We don't speak much Spanish here, at least not anymore, you can always see some remnants of Spanish in the Filipino language. On the flip side, most Filipinos, even those in the provinces, can carry a conversation in English, when we became an American colony English just proliferated through out the entire country, and remains so today.
