The processing times are the biggest spec material here, according to this source it should be around 6 months but some consultants and lawyers claim it will take around 1 year (according to the subreddit ImmigrationCanada).

To me, that’s the difference between applying for this or CEC.

Hopefully we’ll see more announcements this week.

Just to be safe, you can apply for both CEC and the new PR pathway. You can have multiple applications submitted and if either is accepted, you can inform IRCC that you want to withdraw the other one that's still in process.

The only downside to this is that you have to pay the application fee twice.

What about what legalfalcon said? If you have two ongoing PR applications, IRCC will put the second one on hold until a decision is made on the first one to avoid duplicity of work.

The only exceptions seem to be EE and PNP paper-based applications.

I think IRCC wouldn’t like me having 3 ongoing PR applications :’)

Looking at IMM0008 form question 10 about current status, what is my current status if I am on Study Permit AND a Co-op Work Permit, during my work term? Student or worker?

You'd still be a student since the work you do on your co-op is part of your studies.

This makes sense tbh. I think the majority of volume on May 6th will be those also in CEC pool.

It makes perfect sense. Thinking the government should double the fee for 2nd application

I think PNP applicants can't be really blamed for this, in a matter of 1 month processing times went from 11-15 months to 22 months. I applied in November and I've been told I should expect an AOR in June/July. With online programs you normally get AOR within 24h and can expect movement within the first month (bio request, medicals, etc).

For now, all we can do is wait for updates on the new stream. I have high hopes IRCC will release more info before May 6th because they've already had to clarify some things about IELTS/CELPIP testing, which means they've probably realized it was a mistake to give just a bit of information and let people interpret it, which results in thousands of people wondering whether they're eligible or not and FOMO.

I believe there will be an updated imm008 form for us.
Definitely, the first few sections have a drop-down list where you have to select under which stream you're applying and last time I checked, we still don't have the new streams. The provisional name is TR to PR but who knows what the "final" name is going to be.

We will probably wait until the 6th to download and fill out the forms, unless we manage to move my wife's language exam to an earlier date. I do hope the stream remains open for at least a week.
