Haven't heard anything about flights after May 1st and it seems everything is changing quickly so I wouldn't think too far down the road.

People are going a little mental around here.... Over 500 showed up in one community for a ' freedom rally ' with no masks to protest the
restrictions. Don't know what they're thinking about? Maybe just end up as a superspreader event. Then there will be even more restrictions.

Keep hunkered down and try to be optimistic.
Don't go mental !
Trying, but now my husband springs on me that the visa office told him that his passport may be refused because it has some water damaged looking pages from heat. UGH. He already has the biometrics sticker on the back of it...so not sure what to do now. I feel like it's 1 step forward, 2 steps back.

He should just apply for a new passport. You wrote separately that he just did his biometrics, the biometrics won't be 'lost' because he gets a new passport. I don't think the biometrics sticker has any significant meaning, it just makes things a bit more convenient in some instances.

Thanks for your advice. Does a passport number change when you get a new one?

ETA: What new details would I provide IRCC... new date of expiry?

Depends on the issuing country - but usually. Doesnt' matter, you'll just submit a copy of it through webform when you get it. (We did this for one child, no issue whatsoever - granted no biometrics involved but no reason to think new passport creates some biometrics issue)

That can be a problem and I've heard about passport issues with water stains etc.
@armoured has some good suggestions so make sure you get it fixed.

Thanks for the positivity, I definitely struggle with that!

My husband is just making me anxious thinking if he gets a new passport it will create a problem with our application as the number etc. won't match...and that stupid biometrics sticker they pasted on the back of his passport!!

I told him it will be a bigger problem if they return his passport without a visa...and could potentially set us back months waiting for a new PPR!!

The number on the passport changing is completely normal, and lots of applicants have to change passport during the process. The biometrics sticker is irrelevant.

You're quite right that it will be more of a hassle later to change it.

Thank you. I give him logical explanations and he always gets me questioning myself because he gets so nervous. In the end, I have been right every single time. Don't tell him I said that. ;) hahah

For those interested in the actual decision, it's here:
https://theccf.ca/wp-content/uploads/CCF-v-Canada-decision-Mar-22.pdf

It's interesting in that the people who are pushing this line that they are defending fundamental liberties etc have been clearly misrepresenting to the public what they're doing.

E.g.: "The applicants do not challenge the lawfulness of the mandatory quarantine of travellers who arrive in Canada. In fact, they argue, that a longer quarantine period might be more constitutionally sound because it would better accord with the purpose of the quarantine to stop the spread of COVID-19 and its variants. "

It turns out what they're actually against is having to show you have a reservation in order to board a plane, and to actually pay for it yourself.

To the extent anyone here disagrees with the policy - which I can understand - it does not look like it's going to get anywhere on a legal footing. (A cynic might say 'not with these lawyers representing them.')

More pull quotes (with my open mocking when I feel like it in italics):
-"The applicants submit that the cost of hotel accommodation prevents them from travelling abroad to see loved ones who are in need of assistance during the pandemic. They argue that the cost prevents them from leaving or returning to Canada freely."

Really? The cost prevents them from leaving? Didn't they pay for airline tickets? Is having to pay for cost of travel unconstitutional?

-"There is a well-known, three-part test that the applicants need to meet to obtain an injunction to stop a law from being applied pending a constitutional review. The applicants meet only one of the three tests and barely at that."

That's some mighty-fine lawyering, that - they could only meet and barely one of three known tests to get an injunction. Folks, these are not lawyers you should pay money for. (I suspect the actual lawyers know this is kind of embarrassing)

"-But the applicants’ wish to choose to quarantine at home or to stay for free at a hotel, and their spending priorities when they travel abroad during the pandemic, are decidedly first world, economic problems. They are principally money issues that barely raise any discernible constitutional concern. "

^^It's not a good sign for your case when the judge says they 'barely raise any discernible' consittutional issue, and says it's a 'first world problem.'

-"The only constitutional issue that I can perceive in this proceeding is whether the requirement to quarantine in a hotel is a restriction on peoples’ liberty without any real basis in science or public benefit."

Don't hold your breath, folks - this bit gets thoroughly demolished. Government provided a whole lot of information.

Sorry to hammer away at this but read that bolded part above two times: because the real lesson from this suit is that they did not challenge the mandatory quarantine because they absolutely knew they had no chance of winning that challenge.

It should be really, really obvious that what sounds like the most draconian part of this - the mandatory quarantine itself - to the public at large IS the part they would have challenged, but if and only if it had wouldn't have been laughed out of court. They know perfectly well the mandatory quarantine is constitutional, and clearly so.

I'm not sure a longer quarantine is necessary. I'm really just worn out with this. I am hoping the vaccines really help with this pandemic and we can continue on with our lives with some sense of normalcy.
