Hi Folks,

Any idea how long can Sponsor live outside Canada (currently sponsor is in India) when dependent PR (spouse PR) application is in processing? I heard, it is better if sponsor live in Canada during PR application processing for outland applicants? Could any one please help on this? Is this makes any difference if sponsor live in Canada or outside Canada during PR application processing?

If Sponsor is a citizen, no issue. If Sponsor is a PR, must reside in Canada. Short trips - like less than a month - should be okay.

It is not clear how strictly this is enforced but it is a ground for refusal of the application.

I submitted my application back in June 2020, IRCC opened it in Dec 2020 and mailed it back to me, missing signature, and took three weeks to be delivered due to holiday seasons. I submitted the whole thing back to them and delivered Jan 2021. my question is: do they treat it as a completely new application or they give it some consideration since it took them 6 months to open the application?

Thanks, I don't think this is fair but anyhow, the process is a process and this is how they do it I guess.

Not making any claims to fairness either, just seems to be the way they handle these.

Just a heads up - on another thread a December applicant received an AOR and a January applicant received an AOR. So, hopefully, things will continue to move fast... although I am really annoyed that they seem to pull random packages and start processing willy nilly.

Thanks, I don't think this is fair but anyhow, the process is a process and this is how they do it I guess.

If they did that then they would have many people submitting before they had everything just to have a place in line, then where would the "fairness" be there. However, it seems like it doesn't matter when you submitted because they seem to be just grabbing random files from the probably very large piles and sending AORs. Let's just pray that something happens to give us all fairly quick processing times. I have seen some movements from the people pushing for change. There is a advocacy group for spousal sponsorship that is sending out videos, face book messages, letters on behalf of the group to politicians, and having members send tweets out to government and media letting them know that we are not seeing much change or priority. I have also seen a petition that citizens and PRs can sign to help the cause. I am hoping that enough voices will make a difference and stop the insufferable waiting game we find ourselves in right now. I am sorry you had to resubmit. Hopefully you will be reunited soon.

Thans my friend and totally agree, there will be never an optimized solution that will fit every possible scenario, you threw one possible way of manipulating the system so, you are indeed stating a reality that they face every day. All I wanted to say is, if it is just one signature, it means it worth looking at the application after being on the queue for 7 months. In the end, I am waiting like everyone else hoping that will not lead to a divorce or something!

I agree. I see this as a big strain on relationships. I know mine has had it's not so pretty moments born out of stress from being apart so much. I do think that returning for a small error is ridiculous. They have our numbers and email addresses, so they could call or email for a correction. It should not be sent back months later just to have to restart the clock and to make us have to redo half of the documents, pictures, and security clearances.
