I don't want to be discouraging or anything, but you should prepare yourself for a significant wait. They are just now sending AORs for applications sent over 7 months ago in March. At the rate their going I'd be surprised if they get to September applications before the end of the year.

I've been waiting 4.5 month and still no AOR1.
Thank you for the reply. Yea, I’m quiet aware of the delay that’s been happening now but just recently, Oct. 6, as per immigration advisory, they will be expediting spousal sponsorship by aiming 6k cases to be processed each month. Hope they meet their target. Probably, everything will work coincidently at the best time (referring to re-opening of canadian satellite office and medical centers).

I'm happy to see progress on the Google Sheets. April 17 Outland people are getting their AOR1 so things are moving. Stay positive everyone.
Just saw in the March 2020 Outland thread that a May 12th Outland applicant received their AOR1! Things are moving!

Even I have missed writing the names in both English and Native language in Family Information Form IMM 5406.
Hope they don't return the application. It's a minor mistake but still. I will submit the form through Web-form.
Hey, I think I also did not right the name in native language, Are you submitting it right now or waiting for AOR1?
Secondly, What is the cover letter for? I haven't submitted any.

Thanks

I think this is worth to be shared.

News release
September 24, 2020—Ottawa—Today, the Honourable Marco E. L. Mendicino, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, is announcing action to speed up spousal application processing and help families build their lives together in Canada.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has increased the number of decision makers on spousal applications in Canada by 66%, to process spousal applications more quickly and reduce couples’ wait times.
IRCC is leveraging new technology in a pilot to digitize paper applications so they can be processed more efficiently by IRCC employees working remotely and at various worksites. In addition to implementing facilitative biometrics measures, IRCC will be piloting, in the upcoming weeks, technology to conduct interviews with applicants remotely, in adherence with public health protocols.
With these initiatives, IRCC aims to accelerate, prioritize and finalize approximately 6,000 spousal applications each month from October until December 2020. Combined with processing to date, this rate will lead to about 49,000 decisions by the end of this year.
COVID-19 has created uncertainty for Canadians who are sponsoring spouses for permanent residence. We will continue to search for innovative and compassionate ways to reunite families, while following the advice of our public health experts to protect the health and safety of Canadians.

My question as well. If we don't have any reference number, how do they add it to our application? ( no AOR1 or temp number )

I had two questions that I hope someone could help me with :

1. I sent in my application via courier. They informed via tracking it was delivered. But there was no signature by the recipient so I have no way of confirming my application wasn't actually lost - given we are very far away from our AORs and Temp numbers - is this some sort of an issue or is it normal for people to not get signatures from CIC when delivered?

2. Has anyone from September 2020 received a temporary file number? I called them and they said they could not find my file - that it is too early.

Given the human mind is predisposed to think in the negative - wanted to know if someone here could help by sharing their experience or knowledge.

I am waiting for the temporary number and then submit it through web-form.

Temporary number starts with X<ActualFileNumber>. It is generated between the Applicative Received Date and AOR 1 date. It is allocated when the application is opened and scanned and your details are entered into the system.
You can only get it by calling the CIC agent and it is surprising that some agents say they don't know about it.

Temporary numbers are just a satisfaction that your file is received by CIC (Other than that, it is of no use). However, if a person has missed something like me who forgotten to enter the names in the native language too in Family form, it can be handy as I can send a web-form using the temporary number.

At this moment, as far as I know, September applicants package has not been opened and comfortably sitting somewhere in their office.

Yes, called to confirm they have not yet scanned files. Will probably try in a months time and post here in case I do get a temp number, since it's needed for the web form.
Would appreciate if you all could post whenever you get the Temp form number as well. Good cue for others. Thank you.

I was looking through my forms and realized that I left off my brother's city and zipcode on form 5406.
UGH! I'm so annoyed with myself. I printed it, signed it, scanned it and then submitted it online even though I don't have a UCI or any other number.
My file is still going to get returned, isn't it?

I should have used an attorney or something; my husband likes to rush that sort of thing and tells me I worry too much. He kept nagging me to hurry up with the forms. I should have spent another weekend reviewing my forms.

I believe we were supposed to include a letter about our daughter's status as well- we applied for her citizenship certificate, but, of course it will likely be a year before we hear back on that anyways. I included the receipt and a copy of the form we sent, but, can't remember sending an actual letter explaining.

After seeing all the other applications getting returned from March- I'm so concerned about having my file returned in 5 months; which prompted the review of my documents at 2 AM.

Ugh! I'm sorry to hear that. What if you re-submit a complete package with the original payment receipt and a cover letter explaining the situation. Worse case they toss out your second application and best case you only lost a few weeks? Would CIC get upset if you did that?

It's a thought- I might do that next weekend. I did submit the form online, but, I don't know if that will catch up with the original packet or not. I see all kinds of posts where people post that they've done that- but, even with a bunch of google searching I can't find anyone saying whether or not that worked. I'm thinking of calling on Monday and seeing if the call center knows the answer to that- but it seems like everyone who calls gets a different answer.. lol

But, yeah, resubmitting the whole packet while everything is still fresh would probably be a good solution if I can't get an answer.

I have similar problems with the Family Information form. I am planning to submit it when I get a temporary application number. If I send it through the post, I do not think they will do an effort to find your package and append it.
