Why not make a Hashtag on Twitter and tag Justin Trudeau, Immigration Minister and IRCC.

Thousands of students should tweet them everyday.....Now is the time and We have to do this together.

While you are correct that IRCC should have some solid plan to deal withstudent visas, TRVs, work permits and sponsorship what you are up against is the Canadian citizenry wanting the borders to remain closed. A marked majority want it to remain that way (particularly the US border). Any government faced with that level of support for a specific policy isn’t going to go against the popular wishes of the country. The governments priority is to its citizens.

No, you're wrong here. They could not have gone through the earlier study permit process as easily as you make it out to be. And again, it's misrepresenting to say that no one would have challenged it if they had not made a 2 stage processing change.

Because if they hadn't made this change, then all students would have either withdrawn & asked for a refund or everyone would have deferred for the fall. Implication is that there would have been a very, very negligible number of international student intake for fall 2020, resulting in their economy putting $22 billion in jeopardy. This is the amount that we international students bring in every year.

It's money at the end of the day. They haven't given us alms by introducing this 2 stage process so please don't make it seem so. In fact, they're yet to decide when and whether / not they'll allow students with full approval before March 18th to enter.

I speak for myself so I'll proudly say that I've qualified for the opportunity to study there at a prestigious university in a highly selective program. And I'm not being allowed to travel & enter despite having full approval before March 18th, just because my online classes are supposedly "non-essential". While US students enter Canada everyday easily with fully online classes, coming from the worst-hit country.

So it's not that we students are expecting something that we don't deserve in the first place. It's been years worth of outstanding academic standing, time, energy, effort, hardwork, sacrifices, struggle, blood & sweat thays gone into reaching this stage now. We need to be treated fairly & justly now. A pandemic cannot & should not ruin someone's lifetime worth of work & the very chance & motivation to live life.

Please don't patronize students here by putting out demotivating posts to quell our dissent when we have complaints.
Hi, I’m sorry to hear about your story. I know many of us here are going through a lot, and I appreciate you sharing your story. I just want to ask - you mentioned US students are getting in easily, what do you mean by that?

This 2 stage study permit process is bcs they care just about the money international student bring to the country now even with online courses and the bitter truth is that they do not care for the international students, they just care about the money,
And what a racism and discrimination when they allowed American students to enter canada but we are not allowed.
A. American student oh lets apply to study in canada what i shoud do
1.get a LOA
2. Most of them no biometric needed
3.visa easily issued
4.enter canada

B .other international students
1. Try hard to get a good score in ielts or toefl or ...
2. Get a LOA
3. Biometric necessary
4.months of waitig
5.this ridiculous aip and 2 stage process despite of even having full application
6.you can't enter canada
This is not fair,at least not to me.
Nothing to do with racism. It has to do with longteŕm economic partnerships. Also a lot less students arriving from the US.

Would say moat Canadians alao want to minimize tha amount of flights coming into Canada. There are ckvid cases coming in regularly by plane as well. Canadians want to minimize covid and want those already in Canada to try to get employed again before letting more people enter Canada. There is huge concern that thete could be an uptick in casee when elementary and high schools start attending schools. There isn't a huge focus on students attending classes in person at college and universities.

Does that mean Canadians do not want to minimize Covid in Canada that can come from US students going inside? Are US students immune to Covid?

The condition of "essential" (Non-Discretionary) purpose of travel is the same for everyone - be it for the US, or for the rest of the world. So if students from other parts of the world cannot enter if classes are online (which is non-essential), then the exact same thing applies to students from the US as well.

There is no exception to the "essential travel" rule - it's the same for all international students in the world who want to enter.

The only exception to people going from the US is that they can travel even if permit gets approved after March 18th. From the website, it's clear to me, in my opinion, that even those from the US need a full approval - just that it can be after March 18th.

Even if not racism it is discrimination and its not fair.actually I didn't choose to be born in my country,so that partnership is a way to discriminate people, and when you give the right to yourself to put sb in a higher level and think oh they deserve more and better and they have to be treated better and others do not ...
it is discrimination and at least a little bit of racism, racism is not always about the color of humans body.

While what you say may be true, that also means that in that case, IRCC should not have encouraged so many international students across the world to keep applying for the study permit & shouldn't have induced students to keep submitting new applications.

When it's so clear that they aren't going to allow any of us inside before the end of 2022 (i.e., before all 8 billion people on earth are vaccinated), then they should NOT have continued accepting new study permit applications, even after knowing that their processing had stopped for some time in between & that they are not going to allow us till every last trace of Covid is wiped out of earth.

Why keep students, their lives & their life savings in the loop when they're so clear about what they will do in regards to allowing us in?

Why did they not cancel all international student intake for fall 2020 completely, 'cause anyway we are only going to be allowed by 2022, and that too, if at all.

Keeping thousands of us in the loop & after making us invest our blood, sweat, time, energy & a very significant part of our lives into studying in Canada, if they go back on their words about the PGWP, and if they don't let even those with full approval before March 18th enter, then that is CLEAR invalidation & incognizance of our lives, efforts & our sufferings as humans.

Should have announced in May / June that no international student (except US students) will be allowed in & that no new permit applications will be accepted. Otherwise, it's not fair to us humans here, to be kept in the loop only to be totally denied entry even with a valid Visa before March 18th.

It may be a simple thing for people in the west, but poor countries are the worst-hit when it comes to any global economic crisis like this. For meritorious students from poor countries who've slogged all their life, going through hell & back for excellence in education, this could well be a life & death scenario.

Visa processing is an essential service. Students have planned years in advance for their futures and because of a silly reason, IRCC stopped processing everything.

SDS SP applications have turnaround times of about 5 days in normal circumstances. 20 days is the max processing time. It has now been 156 days and I have not received anything.

I may only receive an AIP at this stage which is not of much value. All it will do is allay my fears that I might get a refusal.

Corona is never going to go away, it will always be there like we have the common cold or the flu, life must go on. We cannot hit the pause button on lives of students.

And the issue isn't about US students actually.

I understand and appreciate the special relationship between Canada and the US.

But what's concerning is - some students, 1st time entrants, from countries other than the US, are allowed in daily even with fully online classes, which are, in fact, "non-essential". Others are denied entry at the border / airport in their home country for the exact same online classes.

Why can't they have ONE rule for all online students (except those from the US) ?

Thry expect us to hit a pause button on our lives and penalize us for no fault of ours.

Pausing life may be possible for people in the west who receive direct government benefits of $2000 every month straight into their bank account from the government. People in poor countries live in insecurity regarding everything in life ( most middle class people, except the Jack Ma s & the Ambanis ) & we only have EDUCATION to make a meaningful way in life. And we've qualified in every way to deserve getting that education.

But our lives are not "essential" now just because of a pandemic. It's been 6 months into border closure now. The least we deserve is to know what exactly they have in mind for us. No demands to get inside Canada or anything. We know that can't happen unless they themselves realize that the pandemic is the new normal & unless they decide to let us in. But we can't be left in quandary like this, with updates on restrictions for Jan month coming on December 30th.

I am supposedly "exempt" due to having a full approval before March 18th. But still prevented from travelling due to online classes being "non-essential". Losing scholarship, co-op, TA, & what not in this ordeal. And of course, physical health going for a toss due to having to sit up nearly 13 hours ahead of their time to do research-intensive rigorous courses.

Maybe they could 1st figure out what to do with the already approved students & those in process, before accepting new applications everyday?

They are not allowing even those with a full approval before March 18th to travel & enter, saying that our entry is supposedly "non-essential". Thry don't want to allow and that's the issue. The March 18th date has become immaterial now.
That is simply untrue. My daughter's university is a small one and lots of communication. One residence is now full with students who arrived from around the world with permits issued before 18 march only and 2 bus loads were picked up and taken directly from the airport to quarantine on campus. No one was denied entry and no one denied boarding.

I do agree with what you said,it's been 6 month im waiting for my visa and just 15 days left untill my in person program starts,so many of new applications get their AIP and i don't even know what is happening to mine.

I totally agree and feel empathy with your words and thinking. Why can they just completely cancel all students intake for fall 2020??? I accepted the admission offer from Canada because of good scholarship + school reputation + good country though I had other choices from Europe & US. But so far I have felt so stressful with their unstable policies for study permit visa (be waiting for 4 months) + traveling - IRCC keeps changing every month, and when they announce a new update, people like us have to find the other way for our situation. With their traveling restriction still holds + delays in visa process right now, I have lost like 2 month rent (because I have already signed a lease with housing) + thousands of dollars (fundings have to be hold in Canada) + other fees. I hope at the end of this month there may be a better changes in their policies.

There is widespread support for keeping the border closed for recreational purposes but not necessarily for close family right on the border or one way journeys into Canada which students and family reunion are examples of.

In fact, Canadians are able to leave for holidays to most of Europe and I've met a few in my job, they've had to do quarantine on return. Seems a little hypocritical that Canadians are able to pass backwards and forwards on holiday whilst one way entries of students and spouses and children of Canadian residents/nationals are having their entries made so difficult.
