Is work permit application required for outland spousal sponsorship(Family Sponsorship)?

I'm a PR who is applying to bring my spouse(lives outside Canada) to Canada. Will my spouse be automatically eligible to work in Canada(since I'm assuming she'll become a PR upon entry into Canada) upon arrival, or do I have to apply separately for an open work permit? Thanks in advance.

If she arrives after she is a PR, she can work immediately on arrival.

If she comes to Canada before she is a PR (ie, while the application is processing) she cannot work until her PR is approved.

Quick question: Does a person who is sponsored under outland family class automatically become PR upon arrival in Canada? The said person has never before been to Canada, nor does she have any intention of entering Canada until her sponsorship application is accepted. Thanks.

Only if their PR application is approved and they have received a Confirmation of Permanent Residence by mail, and if they require a visa in their passport, have had the visa counterfoil applied by a visa office. Then, when they arrive at the airport/border crossing and they ask why they are coming to Canada, they answer "to immigrate," and the border officer works with them to land them as a permanent resident.

I know you're not asking this - but your question seems to ask "If I apply for my wife, and she shows up in Canada, is she an automatic PR?" - the answer is that the application has to be approved. "Accepted" means accepted for processing - ie, they're working on it.

Sorry I meant approved. And yes, my wife has no intention of travelling to Canada on any other visa.

Then yes, once the PR application is approved, she can travel to Canada. When she arrives in Canada, there is a process to "land" her as a PR (paperwork). From then, she is a PR and can apply for a social insurance number, etc., and take up work. She would not need a work permit as a PR.

Thank you so much for your answers. And special thanks for bearing with my annoying and unclear questions. Have a great day.
