Hi Everyone,
I have applied for Fall 2020. my file was received at the embassy on 20th April 2020... they have asked me to provide them with my Biometrics but yet VFS centres haven't reopened in INDIA ... does anyone have any idea about when the centres are gonna open and the entry ban for international students has lifted by CANADA.
Until further notice, i believe most of International students could not go to Canada.
Regarding VFS centers reopening schedule in India, you might probably ask your country's authorities.

There is a thread for those who got their SP approved and are discussing how to submit passport for stamping. That's how I know.
If we apply visa through SDS channel and someone could obtain the student visa by passing three months(from Feb to May), that would make some senses regarding the SDS processing time, since it just beyond the normal processing time for two more months due to the pandemic.
However, @Shazd85 said several applicants had waited from January, that was another tricky thing and it was completely contradict to the case we learned from @sangar_si
I don't know how to put this anymore. Lol

Perhaps they are clearing out SDS applications. I saw an ad in cic news explaining how SDS helps Indians get visa faster. Now why would they put such an article if they aren't processing applications. I think they are processing applications especially SDS applications but the process has slowed down significantly. They do seem confident about offering study permits for fall 2020 study before deadline. Let's wait and see what happens.

IRCC official websites had reduced the SDS processing time from 10 weeks to 8 weeks in China. I had also checked this time in India, it shows 11 weeks. However, we have no idea about this time indicates which categories we had lodged.
I simply cannot wait to see in July we could get the student visa. You know, after all, we still have to worry about the flight and border re-opening issue.

Rest assured, no one is working on our file for the past 100 days. Because most of us haven't even got "Medical Passed" status yet. It takes hardly 48 hours after application submission to get a "Medical Passed" status. The day we receive medical status, it would be an indication of the file being processed. I dont mean to sound depressing or rude, but India might just be heading for a COVID II round and it wouldn't be surprising if our intake gets deferred to January 2021. Because I don't see the situation getting any better in the next couple of months. For the reference, I had submitted my file on March 14th as well. My brother is an IRCC authorized consultant and these are his views.

Until further notice, most people can’t travel to Canada, even if they have a valid visitor visa or electronic travel authorization (eTA).

So we can keep processing applications from people who are eligible to travel to Canada, we’re temporarily

  • changing how you apply
  • suspending processing of some applications
Due to the impacts of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), we can’t

  • process applications normally
  • provide accurate processing times
We’re prioritizing some applications, including

  • Canadians trying to return to Canada
  • vulnerable people
  • people who perform or support essential services
If you’re not eligible to travel to Canada, don’t apply during the suspension of normal processing (until June 30, 2020).

Who is eligible to travel to Canada
Foreign nationals, including United States (US) citizens, can travel to Canada only if they’re eligible.

Immediate family members of a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
To be eligible, you must provide evidence that:

Well, you may probably right about the officer did not process our documents.
However, the tricky things are someone get the visa like @sangar_si mentioned and, of course, majority students, including me and you, are still waiting.
Do you know any reliable info sources other than IRCC that can assure our guessing?

Thank you for you reply.
So far, I didn't mean to say you are wrong. I am honestly request you to share your opinion.
In your reference, which is the part of IRCC official website, says "we're temporarily: suspending processing of some applications". Does that means we are one of the "some applications"? If it does, then why are the applicants like @sangar_si said could get the visa and they become "other applications"?
I am totally confused. Lol
