Yeah, you're probably right. I work for the govt. and we're still waiting for notification about going back to the office (% of staff returning etc.). My guess is around 30-40% return to the office (depending on the office layout, and the social distancing you measure etc.). Now, this doesn't mean that they'll only do 30-40% of the work. It's possible that they will change how they process, and only do the stuff in the office that *has* to be done there. I'm sure some things can be done from home, but it would make sense that they are very careful with that one, considering that they're dealing personal data.
Well given the right hardware a lot can be done at home Ether through a VPN or through custom work tablets it's not hard to securely work

remotely on most if not all of the app process except for a few small things like initial scanning of apps

In fact I suspect that from a privacy standpoint the it actually is more secure to work from home on apps instead of everything being done in one spot (less centralized means more of a hard time for any hackers to get into systems)

True. Thing about working from home is that there might be others around. Can't risk having anyone see/hear anything personal.

If they were smart, they'd be scanning in all the applications as they come in, rather them having them pile up in a mail room. There's no saying this isn't occurring either. Amazing they don't have an online process for submitting applications. Would make it much easier.

Totally true other programs and applications are online based wonder why Sponsorship application remains paper based, online would solve a lot of issues.

Looks like a couple, three years is their plan for that. Closes in 22hrs.
There probably open it up again if needed it's gonna be a big project I suspect probably multi million dollar redesign of the ircc system and its website so it won't happen overnight(reminds me of major Pentagon programs arc that will be a mess to implement)

Short term there gonna have to do what they can to try and work remotely etc with respect to privacy and current system in place any changes to make the system

It mentions covid 19 on listing so I think it's sooner some of the changes they Lilley make won't impact us March applicants sadly because we can't scan our apps ourselves we mailed em out already unless they send em back

But some of the changes they can do might help who knows

June 8 .... :(

I was married Feb 7th after being together with my partner for over 4 years. My daughter is 10 and she's always known my partner (husband now) and cannot remember a time when we were not together. We miss him both so terribly. I live 30 minutes north of the border, he lives 1 hour south - we used to be able to see each other each and every weekend. Now I've been married for 4 months, but have only spent 1 month together. After over 4 years of living apart, we were very much looking forward to living together under the same roof (he would continue to work in the USA, but live at home here in Canada).

Our honeymoon which we were scheduled to leave on back on March 15th, cancelled due to Covid-19.

Fortunately we live in BC and now that the parks have reopened, we can meet up at Peace Arch Park. However, when will I be able to finally have my husband here back at home? Who knows. This is really sad and so very frustrating.

Could this be for us, the ones that have a spouse in the USA? The prime minister announced today.

The federal government will soon be bringing in a limited exemption to current border restrictions to allow immediate family members of citizens or permanent residents to come into Canada, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced.

On May 29, Trudeau first indicated that the government was exploring possible modifications of the directives for the Canada Border Services Agency to allow cross-border families in Canada and the United States to reunite. Trudeau did not specify whether this new policy will be limited to reunifications across that border, or whether family members from other countries will also be able to enter Canada.
