So why can't they apply the same policy to existing COPR holders.
We have no idea what they will do. For seniors a year and 6 months may make a big difference in their health status. CIC will announce what they will do for those who can prove that they were unable to travel once the border open again for everyone. Everyone who can travel is still expected to land.

That is unrelated to covid. If your medical is about to expire they give you an extra 6 months instead of saying you must land in 4 weeks.
What about those COPR that are already expired as mine got expired on 14th April. Wont we be getting 6 month medical extension and need to go through re-medical?

How come it's not related to COVID-19? Web page itself is created for that purpose. Title says "Permanent Residence: COVID-19 program delivery".

I really don't think "senior" or non senior makes a difference. All medicals are valid for 1 year from the date of medical. So all applications which have not yet been approved and whose medical is about to expire are in the same boat as we are.

Just for example my medical date was mid May 2019 and my application got approved in November 2019. So my PRV/COPR validity is mid May 2020. Now let's say another application which was also submitted with my particulars, but has not been approved till now, will get an extension for 6 months.

MY POINT IS MEDICALLY ALL MEDICALS EXPIRE IN A YEAR AND IF ANY ONE GETS 6 MONTHS EXTENSION IT WILL HAVE SAME IMPACT MEDICALLY, IRRESPECTIVE OF THE FACT IF IT IS APPROVED APPLICATION OR APPLICATION IN PROCESS.

IME is valid for one year and it depends upon officer and your current IME reassessment if you are required to redo medicals. Question is do we still fall under exemption category if CoPR extension is provided? what will be the new CoPR approval date?
Actually that critarian is not yet clear. As per ircc agent we might not require to give remedicals.I am just thinking whether they will start the process after their office resumes or after our flights would start.Like they have lock down in Canada till 20 May but India might not start the flights till Sept. Also Delhi office will resume after lock down in India is lifted .Might be in June.... God knows how much time it will take.

Ok I reread it. For certain PRs if Medicals are expiring they will be reassessed for 6 months. Would anticipate that some may be asked to repeat a medical if they had concerns about their health when it came to excessive demand.

They also give some extensions if the time to land is very short during regular processing.

Seniors are likely to have more complex medical needs so they may be asked to repeat medical more often than younger people who will likely be granted an extension right away.

Would add there seems to be some inconsistency because it also says.

  • Expired COPR and PRV: If the applicant informs IRCC via the web form that they are unable or unwilling to travel after the expiration of their COPR and PRV, or if they are unable or unwilling to travel prior to expiration, officers are to re-open the application, and it should be brought forward for review in 90 days.
Reread again and the 6 months is just open for reassessment not 6 months extra time added.

There still isn’t a concrete plan.

Hello everyone, I raised a web form on the IRCC website due to my inability to travel to Canada because of Covid-19. My CoPR was approved in February but i couldn't travel due to the travel restrictions at the time in my Country. This is the response i got below, I don't know if i should raise another web form. Please any info will be highly appreciated, Thanks.

Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

Coronavirus - PR application approved on or before March 18, 2020 - Outside Canada

The Government of Canada is closely monitoring the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and any impacts on IRCC clients.

If your permanent residence (PR) application was approved on or before March 18, 2020, but you haven't travelled to Canada yet:
  • You're exempt from the travel restriction measures, and
  • You're now able to enter Canada.
If you're travelling by air:
  • You need to pass a health check conducted by airlines before you're allowed to board your flight,
  • Anyone who shows symptoms of COVID-19 will not be allowed to enter Canada by air.
When you arrive in Canada, we'll assess your health before you leave the port of entry. You must have a plan to quarantine for 14 days when you arrive in Canada. This is mandatory, even if you have no symptoms. If you don't have a plan, you'll be quarantined in a facility designated by the Chief Public Health Officer of Canada.
Oh god. Confused again. Are they expecting us to fly cos of exemption? anyone here, whose approved application date is before 18th March 2020, and has applied for extension and received any re-assuring replies.

IRCC has already announced that extensions will be given automatically. No one expects anyone to travel immediately. This is the generic response that some applicants are receiving.

Also, all IRCC offices in Canada are closed that there that are working with remote employees have reduced operational capability.

There is a bigger crisis that a nation is dealing with than responding to individual webforms and emails, to which the answers have already been provided by IRCC.

This is impossible to believe that flights are not starting before September, for kind information Air India is having 30-35 crore loss everyday since 22 March and many more airlines do. If this is a situation, Its very hard for government to bailout airlines as they will surly go bankrupt.
Other point, according to one survey over 9000 people who are Canadian PR, Work permit holder and students are stranded in India due to this travel ban, Canadian government arranging repatriation flights only for citizens. So starting international airlines after Sep or from Sep is compliantly idiotic thought
Well I agree health risk due to corona is much higher, but government should understand lock down is not a permanent solution. It just gives time to government to make strategies. more testing and isolation facility and more dedicated heath workers.
Well I just quoted what I heard.Even I would be happy if they start the flights as we also want to land.So this is not a point of debate but just be careful before booking .

Hi, please update if you receive a phone interview. We're on the same boat.
I woke up today with the email confirming my PR status and giving instructions on how to request a PR card. Not even a phone interview! However, I had called IRCC a couple of days ago to ask some questions about my visa renewal, so maybe that was enough to confirm my current address.
Good luck to all! Stay calm, they are working hard to accommodate everyone regardless the COVID19 crisis.
