Hey! How long have you been married now? We got married 9 months after meeting and also have a baby! We will be married for 3 years now in November. (My husband is from Ecuador like your spouse)

Also to everyone else, I got an email from the Embassy in Mexico today:

Mexico has officially declared the coronavirus pandemic a national public health emergency; suspending all but essential activities in the private and public sectors and asking the population to stay home. Accordingly, the Immigration section of the Canadian Embassy in Mexico City is currently working with essential staff only and providing essential urgent services through teleworking. This limits our ability to process paper-based applications such as permanent residence applications. The resumption of in-office services is subject to authorization from the local government

Feeling pretty disappointed about this!
We got married 11 months after we started talking and have been married almost two years now

I know many are in the same situation. My wife is in Ecuador and her situation grows more desperate. Before the virus I left enough money for two months not knowing this outcome would occur. Now without work and all the banks closed she has no way to receive or earn money. We have two kids there and she is pregnant with the third. Surely there should be some kind of humanitarian help to get these processed. Especially when there is the potential for our family to die of this illness or even more likely die from hunger. Once her money runs out she cannot get food

I sent you a private message with some information that will hopefully help. Hang in there!

Would you mind sending that to me as well? I am expecting an interview for my spouse too.
I don't think it would be useful to you. The information I sent was specific to his issue of trying to get money to his wife and children in Ecuador, nothing to do with his interview because I've never had one, so can't help there! Good luck. :)

Can anyone tell me whether my husband can overstay his visitor visa if he's in the process of his permanent residence application? He came into Canada one day before the border closed and his one year standard processing time expired April 15. His visitor visa is right now good until September 15, but if they still haven't processed his residence by then, what will happen if he overstays? I have checked into this question with a lawyer for someone else a few years back, and they told me then that Canada will not move to send people out who are in the process of their residence application, so I'm wondering if that's still currently applicable?

Thank you

1. Why would he overstay? He just applies for an extension of his visitor status.

Exactly, if you call the immigration office they tell you same thing, do not worry because with airline suspensions and covid19 you have adequate reasons for even over stay. But like has said PMM, just extend the visitor visa or maybe another type of visa depend on his situation, study, work, business there are legal ways to extend or obtain a new visa.
Good luck, you guys are lucky to be together..

Did you apply for a TRV? Send an email to Mexico they are sometimes approving visas based on humanitarian reasons for reunification purposes..

We did in the past , obviously it was refused. for such a silly reason, and even if she gets a TRV , can't enter more under the current restrictions as she's not yet PR.

I pretty much think it's more made for us to wait and wait ... is to give them time for searching details.

So no a TRV wouldn't change a thing at the moment...

An application has absolutely no bearing on status. IF you applied INLAND with an OWP then he could have implied status until OWP is received however visitor visas allow a 6 month entry period max. If those 6 months have passed, an extension will need to be applied for. One year is just a ball park... most people right now are 18 months or more of waiting and id assume the pattern will remain the same as they clear the backlog after ppl return to work from this covid crisis. My husband was here on a vv while we were in the process with an outland app. Feel free to pm me with questions

I’m a September 2019 applicant. Last communication I received was in January regarding the police certificate. Heard nothing yet. Biometrics are done as well. Any hope this will be over by September 2020 ?
