They have to issue 85800 ITAs in 2020
No they don't. The virus might change the entire situation in the country. If the economy goes into a recession, what is the point of inviting new people who won't be able to get a job?

But when? That's the question. A lot of people here, including me, would lose points if it's delayed after a point.

I dont think it matters if we lose points. We are at a global crisis situation here. There is a big picture here which may impact it, and no one knows yet from CIC running these impromptu draws last month.

Probably gives more stock to why they may lean more towards the CEC group moving forward.

If CIC does not do a draw today, then it pretty much confirms our notion that they probably do intend to keep this cutoff as high as possible. Cos in so far as they have not officially suspended the immigration process then we expect them to continue the draws.
But if they are waiting for the pool to increase, then it is to keep these scores high and too bad cos I'm stuck on a 468.
Since Marco Mendicino took over a lot of things have changed, we haven’t seen a b2b draw. The IRCC has become even more unpredictable and it also seems that they don’t want the scores to drop. We still have to be hopeful

This seems to suggest otherwise. And was 6 days ago I think so virus situation was already in place.
Well, there is not a lot of clarity yet on how bad the economy situation is going to go. I am not against immigration at all personally, but I think we have to be cautious and watch the situation as it goes further.

Right now the government gives billions of dollars in aid to the people and the companies. After the country gets back to work, it won't immediately stop, as many business won't survive this shutdown and more people will apply for welfare. Also, there is additional support for the healthcare sector, which is crucial in fighting the virus.

These funds will have to come from somewhere, right? That's why I am concerned that immigration along with other government divisions might be considered less essential than others and we might see the funds getting shifted from it to support other more important causes. That, in turn, might affect the number of people they will invite this year

I think so too. It makes more sense to focus on those who represent the occupations in demand or those who have Canadian experience as they are more likely to get jobs,

That is true. Besides they can always make up for it. No dearth of people willing to wait it out.

I am still optimistic. I can not rule it out until 4 PM ET. Draws have happened as late as 1:50 PM ET and as I said earlier, IRCC takes a few hours to publish the details.

If a draw happens, I think we will hear from someone here almost immediately who has received an invitation (even if IRCC takes hours to post the information). That's what happened with the CEC draw.

Sorry just a quick clarification. Does this mean that even if we get ITA, submit documents and apply, the processing time will be MORE than 6 months right?
If yes then it only sounds reasonable because as it stands, CIC staff are not working and they won't be for a while I guess until this Covid thing blows over.
Anyway, we all must keep hoping for the best but thanks for this info. It automatically means they will continue to issue ITAs but may take longer to process.
