Hello ,

With the recent news about travel bans to Canada how is it going to impact for one's parents who have a COPR and visa issued to travel to Canada.
Will the ban apply on parents with COPR issued already ??
Parents -India
Travel Date -May
Is there someone in the same.boat ?? Has anyone emailed cic and received a reply ? As to will parents be allowed to board the flight with a valid Visa and COPR

Yes, the ban applies to parents, as they do not fall under any of the exemptions.

-As posted previously here in multiple threads - IRCC has indicated that there will be some leniency for those who cannot travel before the expiry of their COPR. You will need to contact them.

-Contact IRCC or the visa office you are dealing with. Right now, the government has not announced special measures that would apply to other COPR holders (ie not covered by immediate family). It is possible they will eventually revise and make more exceptions. Repeat, eventually - not right away.

BUT: do not expect this to happen quickly. These measures are new and they have other problems and priorities related to the virus.

Approved permanent residence applications (COPR and PRV)
Permanent residence applicants who are in possession of a confirmation of permanent residence (COPR) and permanent resident visa (PRV) and inform us, by submitting a web form to IRCC, that they are unable to travel within the validity of their documentation should be processed as follows:

  • Valid COPR and PRV: In an effort to reduce the number of cancelled COPRs and PRVs, a note should be placed in the file explaining that the applicant is unable to travel, and the file should be brought forward to the expiration date of the COPR and PRV. If the applicant informs IRCC that they can travel prior to the COPR and PRV expiration, they are encouraged to use their existing COPR and PRV to land.

No, it does not say that and was published before the travel restrictions. Since the travel restrictions apply to parents, they cannot travel right now using the COPR.

Yes! Basically if they can get a flight then they're ok. People are being misinformed.

I fear this is not true. The above was published before the travel restrictions. The travel restrictions apply even to those with valid documents. The only exceptions being made are for immediate family, and the definition of immediate family being used does not include parents.

That is information from BEFORE THE BAN and is now out-of-date. This has been repeatedly discussed on this forum.
