You are applying inland so you are supposed to remain in Canada. A short vacation of 2-3 weeks is usually fine. I would avoid crossing the US border and cross the minimum amount of times possible. You remain a visitor in Canada while essentially living there which isn’t allowed. If you have a home and job in the US you may be able to justify your visitor status easier but I assume that’s not the case.

If you have a valid multiple entry travel visa for the United States, you may be able to travel to the US to visit your children while your application is under consideration. However, it's important to be aware of the following:

  1. Travel restrictions: Check the current travel restrictions for both the United States and any other countries you may be traveling to or from, as there may be COVID-19 related travel restrictions in place.
  2. Status of your application: Make sure that your application is still under consideration and has not been refused or withdrawn.
  3. Impact on your application: Traveling outside of the United States while your application is under consideration could have an impact on the outcome of your application. It's important to seek advice from a immigration lawyer or the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) office before making any travel plans.
  4. Admissibility to the United States: Even with a valid travel visa, you may still need to meet other requirements to be admissible to the United States, such as having no prior immigration violations or having a compelling reason for your visit.
