Overseas spouse PR application. 6 months passed after medical , still nothing

Maybe it’s better to order GCMS note to check if your spouse pass eligibility,criminality and security . Also you can check by calling IRCC

I called IRCC, they said we haven’t access to the file , cus file in VO Ankara. Also I ordered GCMS note and there’s Not started checking criminality and security

It’s better if you keep ordering GCMS notes because to release this notes the officer should check and sometimes it’s make some movement to the application

Hey everyone, so I got my DM waiting for the interview. But I do have some questions for those that have put in their application already.

Now that they're requesting my spouses form imm0008, should my spouse have already applied for the CSQ(Applies to Quebec) or are they suppose to use mine?

- are we supposed to mail the VO the original birth certificate and marriage certificates or is it copies?

-For background checks, do we send just a federal background check or a state background check too?

-Also, he completed a 10-month scholarship program in the country of Andorra, would he need to submit a background check from there as well? -

Lastly, would the status of my spouse on his application still be Spouse of Protected person or would it now be Permanent Resident seeing that I'm preparing for the interview?

Hi Guys,

I'm the main applicant since January 2018, no DM yet (23 months:/) but got AIP in September 2019. In my AIP, VO asked my husband for IM0008 and police clearance which was submitted and now they are asking for IMM 5490 (Proof of spousal relationship). Firstly, I find it strange that they are processing his case before giving me DM as usually main applicant gets DM before. Has this been the case of anyone else?

Secondly, I have questions about IMM 5490 as follows:

1- "Please write your name and date of birth, date the photos taken and a brief description of the context on the back of each photograph; do not provide CD, DVD, USB keys);"
This confused me as I am supposedly sending it by email so how am I suppose to write in the back of each photograph, unless they want me to mail it??

2- "Proof of contact from 2017 like printed text messages, emails or social media conversations between you and your spouse with months and years shown. Provide explanation if names used on contact differ from your passports. Provide a maximum of 10 pages"
In this part, each page of the 10 pages should have how many proofs? As much a I can fit or?? I dont really understand how they want this to be done. Any suggestions? I wish these things came with examples


3- "First contact: Did you have any contact with your sponsor before you met in person?"
This is the first question of the form which is a YES or NO question. My husband and I are childhood friends but we did get back in touch in social and asked me on a date before we met in person as adults. Does that count as a Yes we did have contact before we met in person or NO as the first time i met his was when i was 8 in school!

I thank everyone who is taking the time to help me with this. Its hard not to have a lawyer who knows these stuff and its amazing how we can share our experiences here. Thanks a lot again guys and hope we all get our cases finalized soon

Hi Jexter, congrats on your DM! Did they ask to mail the documents? For us, when we contacted singapore VO they asked us to email original scanned copies. Nothing was sent by mail but it could be different for you. Also, anywhere that your husband has been after the age of 18 and he stayed more than 6 months, a police certificate is needed.

- Your spouse should fill imm008 under family program and select spouse. It’s better to read the following CIC link to help you how to fill the form

You’ll find under question “6” note :
If you are not applying under a Quebec immigration program, select “no” for Question 6 a) and leave 6 c) blank. Your spouse is applying under family program so I guess follow this note.
- Your spouse should send all requested documents which mentioned in DM letter only , if birth certificate was requested send certified copy not original by mail. If VO asked to send the documents via email , original should be scanned.
- For PCC , follow the CIC link https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/medical-police/police-certificates/how.html
select your spouse country to find out how to get police certificates.
- Submit PCC only from requested countries.
- Your spouse is spouse of protected person even when you get PR and youll notice in your COPR that your PR category is CR( Convention Refugee) and your spouse category will be DR (Dependent of REF-CDA residing abroad and in Canada and who have not been deemed to be a Convention refugee in his/her own right)

Usually VO in Canada send BOC of main applicant to overseas VO when eligibility passed of main applicant ( AIP) so some overseas VOs start the application process immediately and ask to receive the forms and documents via email , some others VO wait until receiving forms via mail to start the process and sometimes waiting to be notified for main applicant landing so I guess your husband lucky

1- As you requested to send all requested documents via email, if the photos are hard copy you can write on the back of photograph then scan the photo and it’s back on one PDF , do the same for each single photo. If your photos are soft copy you attached details of each photo ( date and place ).

2- It’s better if you provide proofs as much as you can and 10 pages as maximum.( ex. screen shots of your Facebook conversation, WhatsApp chat ,emails....)

3- From my opinion, he met you in person when he was child so it’s yes and he can explain the details.

No need for lawyer in this , you need only to be honest and provide proofs as much as you can and try your best to organize all these proofs to help the VO agent to understand and satisfied with these. All the best to you and your husband and hopefully you receive DM and your husband join you soon

I got AIP on 25 of October 2019 and they asked my overseas family documents to send them to London , They received all documents on13 November 2019 now I got their e mails for the family Finger print and extra documents.


Just received e mail from London office
To send more documents
1.Original birth certificate .
2.Copy of PR card or any ID of Canada
3.BOC
4.Family Communication
5.Imm 5490
6.Imm 5540

First Question should I send original documents by post or e mail .
Second Question what about them Canadian ID Driving Licences , refugee ID or travel documents.
3rd question how I send them communication by screen short with msg or etc. We use Whatsapp.
What about BOC ???

This is good news and it’s mean your family application is moving forward .
1) As VO start contact you by email so all documents requested should be submitted via email, for birth certificate just do scan copy of original birth certificate and it should be in English or French.
2) I don’t understand how VO asked for candian ID for overseas?? Please explain what VO asked exactly
3) As you said most of your communication was via WhatsApp , you can extract the messages using application for that or you can do screen shot also try to send any communication like Facebook or emails . Try to provide as much as you can.
4) The Basis of Claim (BOC) either you have copy of it or you can ask your lawyer to provide you with a copy then do scan copy of it .
