I have a distantly related question regarding temporary stay in Canada. My parents just gave their biometrics yesterday in the US (CPC-M is processing their case). When we entered the border at the Douglas crossing, the CBSA officer, for whatever reason, asked when they are leaving and, if so, why. I explained they intend to stay here to await the finalization of the the PGP application, but he seemed to insist they ought to leave Canada before their 6-mo stay expiry in October. I don't understand why, if they left Canada and re-entered (same-day). Doesn't that count as a reset of the 6-month counter, so to speak?
Going to US does not reset the 6 month counter. You must apply for extension which is very easy and you can apply online provided you have 1 month of validity remaining on their visitor visa stay.

Happened to us 2 years ago. My mom went to USA after 5 months stay in Canada and came back in less than 24 hours. Officer said that she must exit Canada within a month.

I had similar problem with CBSA agents, it seems like they are not very familiar about how SuperVisa works. First time they said they didn't know about it and had to analyze it so we waited and waited and finally they stamped the passport without a date. I asked how long we had and he said we had 1 year. Then I asked if it was not 2 years (first SuperVisa stamp) and he said "sure, 1 year, 2 years, does not matter.

Second time they didn't stamp, we asked for a stamp but the agent said we didn't need one. We crossed the border again in less the 6 months and then they said our previous stamp had already expired, we said we were sorry because we thought that it would be valid 6 months after last entry but the CBSA agent said we should have left by the date of the last stamp. He was nice enough to stamp again and put a date 6 months later.

Last time we said my mom would stay 1 year and the agent said we had to go inside to ask for a stamp of more than 6 months. We went inside and the agents didn't know much about the SuperVisa, they discussed among themselves for a long while, then the agent ended up asking lots of annoying questions, gave us one year then changed her mind, invalidated the stamp, and gave us another stamp valid for only 6 months :/

I got tired of these undocumented discussions at the border so I asked CIC for an Extension Letter. Now we got an official letter stating we have 1 more year. I really find it better than crossing the border and relying on what a given CBSA agent knows about the SuperVisa program.

Hi,

I was invited to apply for my parents PR and my application was received by immigration before 28th June 2019. I had got confirmation from courier service that the application has been delivered. however, I haven't heard anything from immigration since then. I am worried whether they have ACCEPTED my application or not.

Have anyone else got any confirmation from immigration?

Thanks,
Malkeet

This is normal, based on the current trends you will get AOR last week of this month or first week of next month.

My parents came here in sept 2018 (2nd entry). The CBSA Officer said how long they gonna stay. They said 1 year. Then he didn’t put any stamp on passport. After that I called CBSA to make sure how long they can stay 6 months or 2 years(as rules changed in August 2018). He said default stay is 2 years if there is no stamp. Then I asked cic on fb messenger, they also said now default stay is 2 years if there is no stamp. Then they stayed for 8 months without applying for extension.

Question for Experts
I received Biomeric FEE request from CIC.
My parents are here in Canada till December on VISIT visa. Don't have U.S visit visa.
Submitting web form today with attach payment receipt and request letter from CIC for Bio fee.

Question: should i inform CIC that my parents are here in Canada, till Dec 2019 on visit. Request to extend biometric. Should I attached copies for the passport stamp (entry page) and copies of Ticket for confirmation? Will request be accepted? Will i still get medicals?
Call CIC and request for Bio and medical in Canada. They will send you the required information

@YULIA-2016 @robertp

Please update line #366

IME request 9 Sept. Haven't received any AOR or Sponsor decision email.

Thanks !

Congrats, mpsb07. That was quick. You are just above me on the tracker. My application was also received on May 29 and now in process. But no IME request yet. No AOR yet.

Yes, the official rule is 2 years, but the CBSA agents I talked to didn't know about this rule so they reinforce 6 months. So I got the extension letter to avoid discussions.
