I think it's case-to-case basis.Hi, if your study program requires a co-op/internship term/s, I don't think you'll need a separate work permit. Technically, you are allowed to work legally anywhere in the city under a study permit (but for only up to 20 hours a week for students). You can also talk to your university department to confirm if a work permit is required for international students. But having a study permit should be enough for you to look for employment as long as your co-op work doesn't go over 20 hours/week.
I'm not even sure if you're allowed to have both a study permit and work permit at the same time?
