Hi Peacekeepr and other members..I have few queries regarding GTA and GTF List...Can someone please calrify?

1. Is the picture only a requirement for Jewellery and other valuable items or it is necessary in case the goods in other categories also are valuable (for eg : If we declare clothing and personal effect worth 2000 CAD and Medicines worth 1000 CAD)..Pictures necessary in that case or only for Jewellery?

2. In the 8 rows for the Form B186 , do we declare only broad categories like clothing, electronics and each item detailed (like 10 jeans and 10 shirts etc) in the excel sheet or only broad categories in 8 rows in Form B186 shall work?

3. For the Medicines, if we put the value as 2000 CAD as we might be taking certain kid related medicines and other OTC medicines and might bring later on as well. ..is that acceptable to customs officer that medicines worth 2000 CAD can be carried without any issue?. and also is it mandatory to carry all bills for medicines?

4. If we are planning to leave Canada in 12 days and will come back after 1 month or so..How are we supposed to make the GTA list as we will take all the stuff back and bring it back in our next visit or is it advisable to put all the stuff in the GTF list?

1. Normally, only jewellery. It's very hard for a Customs officer to appraise jewellery and so, for any of significant value, you should follow the instructions. I guess that fine art or ceramics, you should probably follow the same principles. Are you going to be bringing in the Mona Lisa?

2. The BSF186A is the continuation form for the BSF186. So, start with the BSF186 and overflow onto multiple BSF186As.

3. Be VERY careful about what you bring in. OTC medication in one country may be prescription only in Canada. There is a CBSA guide on their website about importing medicines. Find and read it.

4. You only submit your forms when you arrive and intend to actually stay for a minimum of a year. A "soft landing" does NOT make you a "settler".

Hello guys I have a doubt. In case I have forgotten to declare some assents that I would be importing at a later date, can my wife who is landing few months after I do, declare the items when she goes through immigration?

Yes, she can, as long as she is intending to settle for at least a year after THAT entry.

Thank you, but she's not planning to settle down after that landing. She'll probably come for good a few months after that
In that case, she is not eligible to submit a bsf186 form and claim for the "Settler" exemption. She will need to wait until she comes back to "settle".

Hi everybody,
Just to understand clearly which I read from this forum, I cannot carry my FD statement from an Indian Bank while doing my landing? Is that correct? If so, can anybody please let me know the mode of carrying my POF?
I will be doing my landing in the last week of July. The FD is in an Indian Bank and I will be doing my landing from US.
Should I just transfer that money to my US Bank account and take the statement? Or transfer the money to my US Bank account and convert it to CAD.
Any inputs are greatly appreciated and as always, thank you guys.

When we apply for the SIN upon landing, what address should we provide in case we don't have a permanent address yet? We'll be doing a soft landing, and staying in an airbnb. For our PR cards, we'll be giving our friend's address..

For SIN there is no card or other paperwork to send you. You will receive a single sheet at the time of your application with the information you need.
Therefore, I'm not sure if you even have to provide an address in Canada.

You'll most probably won't have a permanent address at time of landing, and they know that. You will of course be asked for an address in Canada, but it's perfectly fine to say that it's a friend's/temporary address, and they'll say that it's just fine. Even when you move out of that permanent address, you don't have to notify Service Canada.

They do that everyday, and of course nearly nobody has a permanent address upon landing in Canada. No worries.

hi all I have a quick question

I have some jewellery back in my home country in my bank locker.. At the moment I don't have any pictures of it or have anyone to operate my locker as well ... and I live abroad elsewhere now and cant access them ..

I will be doing only a soft landing in November and I will move to Canada permanently next year

I need to know if I can still mention my gold and silver items to follow later when I move permanently or I must declare whatever I own and planning to bring along in my first soft landing itself.

Pls advise
