  1. Hi omofar
Greetings I just received my letter of admission from a college in Canada to study graduate certificate in business and information systems architecture. I applied with my HND in computer science and I graduated in 2011 am 31 years old. My question is that There's instruction in my offer letter to pay a deposit of $2,300 fee before 30day to secure the admission. The graduate certificate program tuition fees for business and information system architecture from September 03, 2019 to April 30, 2021 is $33,268.00. The first semester payment is $8,318.00. So after paying the deposit fee of $2,300 and send the school the payment receipt will I start the study permit application or will i be required to complete the first semester payment before I start with the study permit application.

    Thanks

Hello IamLoved,

Thanks for visiting this thread. At face-value, I think you look like a good candidate. So lets dig deeper, shall we?

Hello

I am 26years old I have an admission to study Msc. Maths and Statistics with a concentration in Statistics at University of Ottawa.

i have paid half of my tuition fee as at today.
I have been to US (i still have a valid visa), UK and canada.
I actually have a sister who is a PR in canada.
You have a good demography in terms of your age. I also think the fact that you were able to secure a Masters degree at the University of Ottawa shows a clear purpose. You have paid half of your tuition already demonstrating ability to fund your studies. Though I would have preferred you paid up for a whole session, but that is not a deal breaker anyway. You have a good amount of travel history that will work in your favour. So here I will score you an A+...While it might be risky for you, you have to mention the fact that you have a sister who is a PR in Canada. Please do not lie or withhold information from the embassy. The fact that you have been to Canada before will show somewhere in their data base that you have a sister living in Canada.

I am a bit concerned because i have some gap years after my BSc.
I graduated in July 2014, but did not do nysc until 2016 (The gap period i went to a culinary school to learn how to make cakes and that kept me busy and provided some income. During nysc i worked at an insurance company but i stopped work there after nysc (april 2017). I continued with my cakes and pastry business up until april 2018 (so another one year gap) when i got my current job. I am currently work at a consulting firm and my work relates to my choice of study. I am just wondering how to properly account for the gap years in my SOP.
I do not see much of a problem with respect to this. Infact you have clearly explained what you have been doing since you graduated from the University. All you need to do is to eloquently explain this again in your SOP and you should be fine. Show the certificate you obtained from the culinary school, show some of the cakes you have baked, if you had a registered business, show how people paid you when you took orders etc. Show the letter of employment from your current job, get a reference letter from the consulting firm you work now, perhaps they may assist you by saying they will be happy to take you back upon your return home, and how much the international knowledge and exposure you have gained will add value to the company. You can also write in your own SOP how you intend to return home to work for a few years with your current employer with a view to starting your own consulting firm in future. You plan to assist small companies and local governments collect and analyse important business and environmental data that can be used for formulation of policy and initiatives that will be of benefit to the community.

Also i am being fully sponsored by my dad's company (he is not the only owner though), i intend on providing the company accounts but do i need to include my parents personal bank statements as well?

Then my living expenses of 10k cad does the money need to be in my own personal account? or i could just also mention that my parents+company will cover all of my expenses.

Also could you give me a rough estimate of an amount that should be in the account to show proof of finances.

I do not own any properties oh (no car, no land :( ), hope the VO will still be convinced that i plan on returning.

Thanks in advance :).
With respect to funding you might have a small issue here, since your dad is not the sole owner of the company. But it is not the end of the world. There are two ways to go about it.

I would personally prefer if your dad, shows the funds in his account, that is just straight forward, and makes things easier. If not, then the company will have to write a letter of sponsorship in your favour. The company directors should sign it. They must justify why they would spend so much of the company's funds on a director's child. They can say that as part of company policy, each director is entitled to send one of their children to study overseas for post-graduate studies to the tune of x amount (just put the total amount required for your entire stay in Canada there).

VOs are not too interested in physical properties, liquid cash is more convincing that land, car, or house. Those are only important to show that you have intention to return to your country and cannot abandon such valuables, but they are not a good proof that you can pay for your tuition, so don't bother about that.

So if you arrange your application properly, you should get your study permit no problem.

Let's know how it goes.

Wish you all the best.

Hello Charles04,

Thank you for visiting this thread.

Congratulations on receiving your offer of admission!

I would strongly advise you pay for at least a semester before applying to the Canadian embassy. You also have to demonstrate capacity to pay for your tuition and living costs for the entire period of the program. You have not highlighted how you intend to do that here. Also it must be clear what you have been doing since 2011, where have you been working. In terms of travel history, have you ever traveled to any country outside Africa?

Please lets know how it goes.

I wish you the very best.

Cheers

Many thanks Omofar

I must be honest with you, after my service year ended in June 2012 I joined my cousin in his business of renewable energy solar installation and maintenance but now business is slow. My Aunt have a registered trading company that supplies wines, beer and soft drinks so I want to use her company as the place I started working since October 2012 as database administrator and the company want to sponsor me for the two year program which I will return after the program is completed.
1, she agreed to provide a back dated letter of employment with her company letter headed paper.
2, she agreed to provide her company bank statements of account and the company letter of sponsorship in my favour and the director signed it.
Am ready to pay the first semester fee but the problem is that I have a virgin passport. Please advise

Thanks

Hi Omofar,

Suppose Mr A's school resumes in September and he applies for his study permit in March, and then Mr Z's school resumes in June but he applied for his study permit in April, do you think priority would be given to Mr Z over Mr A, based on the fact that Z's school resumption date is close by?

Please i would love to hear your thoughts on this. In my case, my school resumes in June and i only just applied this month because i had to wait for my CAQ. I want to know if it's reasonable for me to expect to hear back by May... I'm freaking out because I have no option to defer my admission!

Thanks for what you're doing on this platform. Only God can reward you!

Hello Moyosoree,

Thank you for visiting this thread. I presume you finished SSCE in June/July of 2018. If that is the case, then you are in a good demographic. If all things are in place you are likely to get your study permit, if it is filed properly. Please answer the following questions

1. Can you parents afford to pay N6-8mm a year for tuition and living costs?

2. Have you ever traveled out of Nigeria before on holiday to UK, Europe or the US?

3. How old are you?

Based on your answers I may be able to assess properly your chances of getting an approval.

All the best.

Hello,
I need your help please. I was rejected study permit 5th march, 2019 on the grounds that i don't have travel history, my finance was not enough, my purpose of visit and my personal assets. I already addressed the issue of travel history and financial support but i dint know how to address my purpose of visit because i believe m statement of purpose was clear enough and i don't mind posting it here if requested. Please i would like you to help me out with this. As i have already deferred my admission to January 2020.Thank you.

Hello Charles04,

I hope well. Virgin passport is a big red flag, I honestly think you should work on your travel history first. It is not a requirement, but its much safer. However, you can still go ahead and give it a go.

I wish you the very best.

Let us know how it goes.

Hello Sillysassysally,

To the best of my knowledge applications are treated on a first come first serve basis. Sometimes are applications (if applied online) are treated in different locations. So if for example I put in my application in January online and it goes to an office where there is lot of work, and you put in your application in March, and they decide to send it to another office where the workload is lighter, you application is more likely to come out before mine.

It is unreasonable to expect feedback from the Canadian embassy within a month or two months during their peak period which is about now. You are unlikely to get feedback before your resumption. I wish I had better news for you.

Nevertheless, put your hope on God and hope for the best.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers

Hello Misicious.

Thanks for visiting this thread. I am sorry to hear about the rejection of your application for a study permit. Based on the refusal letter, you must have done everything wrong. The problem with this is that , when next you put in an application, you are likely to be flagged and very likely to be rejected. Please DM me so we can talk.

Cheers.

Hello Omofar,

Thank you for your advice. Its much appreciated. Willbtake all you've said on board and work with it.
Dear Hear4hearts,

Thank you for visiting this post. Sincere apologies for just responding. I hope its not coming late.

1. I am sorry to hear you had to move back home after almost a decade in the UK. You probably could have tried getting a masters or a PhD to push for 1 one more year so you could get your ILR, well that is water under the bridge now. Based on face value, I do not think you have a good profile to pursue a Bachelors program in Canada. As a matter of fact, you travel history will come into question, and when the VO sees you have lived in the UK for so long, and now you are trying to apply to get into Canada, it will raise a red flag that you may not have an intention to return to your home country, so it does not look good. Based on your age and family, I would not advise you move forward with this approach. I would recommend you or your husband consider the Express Entry route to Canada. Once you get there you can pursue your calling into ministry by going to theological school or college.

2. Well this may not be useful now based on item 1 response. However, it is not a good idea to apply with one's dependents for study permit. You are better off applying for your permit first, when you get it, then apply for the kids. By applying for everyone, you are showing dual intent. Meaning you may like to study and may also like to immigrate to Canada. That is a terrible red-flag, and your visa application could be rejected for such as well.

3. If you or your husband are in your early to mid-30 (max 36/37) and you have work experience of over 3 years within a Canadian NOC code that is either 0,A, or B, I will strongly suggest you pursue the express entry option. N5M a year is not sufficient to support you and 3 kids in Canada. You should expect to be spending around N6-10mm a year in Canada for your annual tuition, your living costs, and that of your kids. If you are under a lot of financial stress, you will find it impossible to cope with your studies. I do not think it is worth it.

I am sorry I do not have news you wanted to here, however, I prefer you have the facts, so yo can take an informed decision on whether the international student route is satisfactory or not.

Let us know how it goes.

All the best.

Hello Joe-82,

Thank you for visiting this thread, I hope well.

Your query is not clear to me.

You said something about the ease or lack thereof of getting a tourist visa without being invited, then you went on to say you are considering applying inside, then you now went on to ask how can one get a visiting visa?

Perhaps if you expatiate on your current situation, I may be able to help you better. Are in Nigeria now or in Canada, if in Canada on what permit are you currently on, what kind of permit are you looking to switch to.

While I may be able to offer advise or steer you in the right direction, my area of expertise is applying for either study permit or tourist visa from Nigeria.

All the best.

Cheers
