Thanks for doing this! This is so helpful. You said you moved from US to Canada? Do you have any tips for me as I’m planning to move from US with my furnitures/others?
I did yes, hire a good moving company if you have a ton of stuff and have them give you a detailed list of goods which you'll get stamped when you land , same with your car. Get our Driving history from all states you got your license and your insurance history . Any medical history documents you'll want your primary care provider to have here, (they'll not have access to your records from US) . Experian or Transunion report , will probably come in handy when you apply for any loans etc. Get a US card with zero international transaction fee that would work in Canada, not all banks will give you a credit card here . RBC is probably a good bet. That's all I can think of right now, if you have any specific question, feel free to ask

As most of us from Dec start receiving their PPR's , the next logical step would be to plan for your new life in Canada, moving here , getting set up etc. Since I went through this when I moved here from USA and have some knowledge of folks moving into Canada from elsewhere (eX: India) , I can share up some experiences and things you should do/shouldn't do , things to carry to save you guys some time.

here's a first pass, I'll probably add more here, in case someone has any specific question, feel free to ask and I'll try my best to answer.

1) Health insurance : Big ticket item , for individual and families, while the internet goes crazy over FREE health care , I would like to point out that only Medical is free . You still have to pay for Dental , Vision and Prescription. So the Doctor visit for a fever/sore throat is FREE , you'll still have to pay for any medicine the doctor prescribes. And if you have visit any Dentist or Eye specialist you'll need outside insurance .
Most employers would provide that coverage for some premium but if in your initial period make sure you purchase one.

Another scenario where the private insurance comes handy is during your inital period , the province covered Health insurance takes 3 months to come (at least in Ontario) , so you'll need some insurance for first 3 months. Look up online there are plenty services available.

2) House Rent : Common here to have multiple offers (yea, you read right) for a single house/apt for rent, they hold open houses even for renting and you might be competing with several prospective tenants . You can check out Realtor.ca for available postings and possibly hire a real estate agent to help you , the real estate agent's fee is paid by the owner/landlord you 'll not have to pay a single penny for anything, make sure you don't fall for any agent who's asking you for money .

Since the GTA area is pretty expensive to live in while you are looking for a job, you can look to live in probably in Guelph, Kitchener, Waterloo area, this is a cheaper option to stay in while you are trying to find a job and move to GTA area once you have a job . Commuting from these towns to GTA is horrible everyday but you can do it once/twice for interviews etc.

3) Driver License : If you are moving from US ,it's easy to exchange your license for a Canadian license, but do make sure to carry you driving history from your DMV to get credit because if your current license if not > 3 years old, you 'll not get a full G license unless you show stamped driving history from your DMV . If you don't you'll have to go for G1/G2 which have many restrictions and cause of heavier insurance premiums. Also true for people moving from elsewhere , Driving history is an absolute live saver if you directly want a full G license.

More to come... I would look to cover (4) Auto insurance (5) Auto Loan (6) Phone , which carriers are cheaper/better service (6) Home Internet Service (7) Apply for SIN . Let me know if there's any other topic you'll like to hear about.
Job search wouldn't be bad.

I only have 1 issue with my application and it is my employment letter. There was a hostile takeover going on at my former company and no one wanted to provide an employment letter because the letterhead may change and all. The HR gave me an employment certificate stating my position and department, stamped and signed with company logo and information like a letterhead. Now the letter didnt state my duties and I have seen people get refused for not adding an employment letter but later reopened the case, got the letter and was approved. Does anyone have an idea as to how this will go?? Thanks

You are rolling the dice. I got denied the first time without any attempt by the VO to get more info. And this was a top company in Canada. Some people get furtherance letters or a second chance.

That being said, have you provided a letter of explanation or can get a coworker at your level to confirm on paper?

Exactly my worry because this is a big international mining company too. The takeover is over and my supervisor can issue a letter but he said the letter head is different now

Hi all, here is a snapshot of the most recent PPRs for FSW-Outland candidates resident in India from MyImmiTracker. Meanwhile, the Nov 2018 forum is swimming
in FSW-O India/India candidates that have received their PPRs with AORs as recent as 16-19 Nov! I hope this deluge of PPRs moves over to December soon!

Hoping for some strong

tailwinds for IRCC!

Fingers, toes all crossed.

Wow!

Quick question: CPC-Ottawa received my Passport last monday 8/4/19 noon time and I still have not received any email rejecting my photos or approved update on CIC portal after 1 week. Is this unusual ? I think most people I have seen here got an email rejecting their photos after 2-3 days, or having an approved application after 6-7 days.

I just want to add that most bank have a newcommer program where they give you free checking account (at least for the first year) and a basic credit card to start building up credit score.
Also they might allow you to open the account through mail even before your landing and start deposit your money. The account and asset will be frozen and you will need to unfreeze it after having your SIN. It still might come in handy if you don't want to carry too much cash or paying fee for international transactions.

For initial days, recommded to get some money loaded onto a card you can use here . I've had good exp. with RBC & TD. They both have some good newcomer programs and accounts but TD refused to give me a credit card while RBC did . You can walk in to any branch and open an account. You could also go for a global bank like HSBC or Citi and have them create an account for you even before you move
