If you’re between 14 and 79 years old, you need to give your fingerprints and photo for ALL permanent resident applications, including:
You have to give your biometrics and pay the fee, even if you gave your biometrics in the past to support a visitor visa, study or work permit application, or a different permanent resident application.

After you submit your application, we’ll send you a letter that says you need to give your biometrics and where to go. You’ll have up to 30 days to go in person to an official biometrics collection service location.”
As per: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/identity-management/biometrics/exemptions.html

There is a note that says:
Note: There is a temporary public policy exemption for in-Canada applicants. More specifically, foreign nationals who are eligible to apply from within Canada would normally provide their biometrics as part of an application or request for

  • a temporary resident visa (TRV)
  • a work permit or study permit
  • a temporary resident permit
  • permanent residence
However, since there is currently no biometric service delivery network within Canada, these applicants are exempt from the biometrics requirement until such time as the public policy is lifted. Applicants who apply from within Canada, but whose applications are not eligible to be processed from within Canada, are not covered under this public policy exemption. Those applicants are required to leave Canada in order to submit their biometrics as part of their application.

Thanks!
Waste of money then, but I guess better safe than sorry. There is so much information to process while you're working on your application, this is not the biggest thing I overlooked :p

I just received this email from IRCC

"You have been selected to take part in a Government of Canada survey!

We would like to hear about your experience with Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada. Our records indicate that you have recently received a decision from us on an application.

The survey is voluntary and will take about 15 minutes to complete."

Not sure what this mean as I haven't even received an AOR for the application yet. What decision have they reached?

Also a good find, if you input wrong information when trying to link the application it will say.

Based on the information you entered, we found no applications.

What do I do next?

You may have made a mistake entering your information. Go back and try to enter it again. You can only try to link an application five times in 24 hours.

If you still have trouble, contact us.

but if the information is correct then then the message is

Based on the information you entered, we found no applications.

What do I do next?

It can take time for applications to be entered into our system. Check again in 24 Hours.

If you're still having trouble, you can contact us.

So I guess my application is still being inputed into the system?

Yes, I believe you can only link your application after receiving an AOR (because then they will definitely have records of your application).

Hey! I have a question, did you include your police certificate with the application? I didn’t submit my police clearance because my country requirements say that I have to send my application first and wait for instructions, do you have any idea of how this works? Will i likely get police and medical request at the same time?
Thank you for your help.
We provided certificates from the UK (I am the principal applicant, British Citizen) and from Canada. The Canadian one required going to an RCMP branch to provide fingerprints and photograph so they could process background check and issue the police certificate via post (2-3 weeks)

Medical exam is not necessary to include in application until they request it, and this is likely to be requested shorting after receiving your AOR (a couple of days - a friend of mine recently received medical request 2 days after getting AOR)

Collecting your Biometrics is different to going to RCMP to get your background check / certificate. In our application, we included the Biometrics appointment evidence from our trip to Seattle, Washington. There is currently no collection point in Canada to collect Biometrics for PR/visa applications, which is why we had to leave the country (go to the US) to do this. We made sure that we did this BEFORE my Canadian visitor visa expired, as I would have been refused entry into the US if I was on Implied Status in Canada.

Although applicants are not asked to provide Biometrics with their application, it sure makes sense to get your biometrics collected before they ask as it can take months to get an appointment. Everybody needs to provide Biometrics as of this year, January 2019. The closest collection point for us was in Seattle, Washington. It was either that, or spending more money flying to some other country to get them done.

Your Biometrics will be automatically uploaded to your account a day after you get them done. You don't need to submit anything to your account. I noticed that this is not made clear online or in the Biometrics instruction letter.

Hope this helps some of you!

Yes, closer to 2 months at the moment. End of January applicants are getting AOR these days. Yours will follow soon! The good news is that OWP are approved very quickly (a few days after AOR), hopefully it continues that way for February applicants :)
