Calculating 12 Months of Full time work for CEC? Do they want full 12 months or 52 weeks apply?

Hi everyone- I need your input on how does the CEC count the 12 months requirement. My work details are as follows:

1- 4 weeks of paid work experience in 2017
2- 10 months and almost 2 weeks of paid work experience in 2018

Do I need a full two months to cover the gap, or do I need another 2-3 weeks? I am not concerned about the hours as such, because every week I have worked for an average of 40 hours, from which I understand only 30 would be counted.

Can someone please help me, more so if anyone showed their work experience in weeks like this and was able to successfully get their PR? Really appreciate your help! Thank you in advance.

Best,
Bend

You need 52weeks and most people like to have a little extra time to avoid any doubt. If you were paid in lieu of holiday you may also be able to count up to two weeks paid holiday per year.

You need 52 weeks of full-time experience. Your accounting is not precise enough to give you an exact number of weeks. My guesstimate (4+44+1 complete weeks) suggests you need 3 more weeks as a MINIMUM, but you will have to count the # of complete weeks.

Thank you for your reply. I agree, I am aiming to do an extra 4-6 weeks to be safe, before making an express entry profile.

I just got concerned, thinking that they count months in aggregate instead of individual weeks.

Understood. They define work experience as "30 or more hours per week," so week is the actual unit of time that matters. I wish they would be consistent too : )

Hey- I had another query. When I make the express entry profile, do I have to add these different durations from aug-sept 2017, jan-dec 2018 as different work experiences? Even though they are the with the same organization, same position, and duties.

If so, do I need separate letters from my employer or would one letter do, covering all the durations?

Thank you for all the help!

Those are pretty big gaps between, I would list them separately (if you don't, the profile will count all the time in between, and will base your ITA on very poor data).

One letter is fine, but if you list them separately, you will be prompted to upload a letter for each, so you will be uploading the same letter multiple times (this is not uncommon.)

Thank you ! I agree, the gaps are there because of my employer’s financial issues :(

I am not sure I get this thing on poor data, getting worried now. Like I will list them as aug-sept 2017, then Jan-dec 2018, would this be fine?

Yes, although that is not ideal either (not your fault, system design flaw).

What I meant was, if you listed it in a single from Aug 2017 - Dec 2018, the system would count much more time than you actually worked.

VOs use exact dates (first date of employment - date on letter of reference) - DD/mm/yyyy but the system allows you to only put MM-YYYY. This can result in people getting ITAs too soon (example, say the actual start date was Jan 31 2018, the system would only see Jan 2018 and count it the same as if it were Jan 1... then the system would mark "1 year" and eligible n Dec 1 because it only sees "Dec 2018". In reality, that would be 2 months too soon; if an applicant accepted an ITA based on that, they would end up getting refused. IRCC warns you (in the fine print) that it is your responsibility to apply only when you are eligible...

Hello,
I am Bhagyashree Kulkarni looking for applying Canada PR.
I have one question regarding CEC, how the one year span is calculated for PR application? Is it by months or dates (365 days)?

I was working in Canada till 27th December 2019 and my arrival in Canada was on 29th December 2018 and this makes 11 months 28 days if we consider 365 days logic, so in this case am I losing points for one year because of departing from country 2 days earlier?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks

They will not count the hours in excess of 30 hours per week

IRCC defines full-time work as working 30 or more hours per week. You need 52 weeks of full-time employment.

Your start date is the actual first day of employment, not the day you arrive in Canada.

but for the sake of discussion, let´s say you actually started on the day you got off the plane (not common). If there were only a 2-day gap between your start and end dates, then I would think it likely that you worked at least 30 hours in your final week, and you will have meet the requirement.

Just. barely. But I would say you qualify.
