Is this a valid job offer?

Hi guys,

I had another question. My current work permit is valid until November 2017, and my employer is giving me an updated offer until December 2021. So do I need to apply for a work permit extension before entering the EE pool? Because mine is a LMIA exempt closed work permit, my employer will have to pay the employer compliance fee again if I need to apply for a work permit extension. Or is it okay to leave the work permit as is, and claim 50 points based only on my offer letter, and submit the PR application early next year (I will hopefully have an ITA, my score is around 520) assuming that I will obtain the PR before my work permit expires?

Hi guys,

I am currently working as a postdoctoral fellow and I will be completing 1 year work exp in Canada in January 2017. So I will be eligible to enter the EE pool soon after that. My original contract was until December 2017. After the changes in the CRS system, I spoke to my boss and she has agreed to give me an offer letter until December 2021. However my salary comes from research funds and the nature of the field is such that we don't usually know the funding scenario in advance. So the offer letter states that this contract is subject to availability of funding and satisfactory performance. Will this be considered a valid job offer by CIC? Can I claim 50 points based on this offer letter?

My situation is close some how to Janaki. I have received a postdoctoral fellowship contract for two years starting March 1, 2018. However, i have an open work-permit visa (i.e., post-graduate work-permit).

My question is, will my 2 years postdoc contract be considered as a valid job offer under the federal skilled workers program ?

Can I claim the valid job offer points ?

P.S. my position duties is only research based without any teaching hours.

No. You cannot claim the points for a valid job offer while working on a PGWP.

It's not about being able to legally work in Canada. Simply put, those with LMIA exempt employer specific work permits (closed work permits) are able to qualify for the points for a valid job offer while those with open work permits cannot.
