Right now, the only document I have to prove my Ontario address is the medical insurance policy I purchased to cover me during the 90 day OHIP waiting period. It does list my Ontario address on the policy. I see that an insurance policy is listed as acceptable proof of address, but it says "(e.g. life, home, auto)" and medical is not listed as an example. Does anyone have experience using a medical insurance policy as their proof of address?

What's the rush? If you just landed last week, there is zero reason to get OHIP now. Wait a few months until you have one of the required proofs specific to the list, and then apply. You can apply at exactly the 3 months mark, and will get your OHIP number to use immediately at the Service Ontario office.

Yeah, that's kinda what I was thinking. I know it goes based on the date you land and not when you apply. I'm just the kind of person who hates loose ends :D I'll be trading in my license next month so I'll probably just wait and use that.

aha! I wasn't aware of this.
so I can come to Ontario and apply for OHIP after 3 months and I won't have to wait a further 3 months for it to be effective?

Right, as long as you have proof of the day you physically entered Ontario. Typically for someone landing as PR in Ontario, this would be from the date COPR was activated by CBSA.
