Hello,
I want to sponsor my parents. My husband is going to be a co-signor. He had a big income for many years, but he was laid off in 2016 and found
a new job only in 2017.So, he had a big income for 2014, 2015 and almost nothing for 2016
Does anybody know if we we will be eligible?
If you are living in Quebec, they still only require 1 years income proof, not 3. So if you and your co-signer husband has 2017 income qualifying for parents LICO, then you may be able to apply in 2018 or 2019. Need to read the Quebec rules on exactly what income will qualify you for 2018. If they require 2016 income, then you'll need to wait until 2019.

Your accountant is wrong. Don't take immigration advice from an accountant.

The only status that matters is that when you actually submit the app. As long as you're common-law/married at time app is submitted, and co-signer is a PR/citizen, then both incomes can be used to meet LICO going back 3 years.

What each of your status was in previous 3 tax years is completely irrelevant.

You can certainly pay a consultant for another opinion, but rest assured this is correct.

true that.

i have confirmed this. thank you for all the help and responses.

Thanks forgot about Quebec. Depending on the instructions you may be able to apply or only wait a year.

anyone knows how self employed people can apply in 2018 if they ask 2017 income? We will not get it till end of year! It is so unfair!
Why not wait until actual rules are posted before complaining how unfair it is.

I moved as PR last year. Can I use my US income (it was definitely more than the minimum), to sponsor parents? I guess not, but I want to confirm (the ircc website doesnt explicitly say i cannot).

hi everyone. I am in a common-law relationship and I am interested to apply for parents sponsorship. I need my partner to co-sign to meet the income requirements. my question is if they need us to prove we are common-law? we are living together more than a year but he has not brought my name into any documents sofar. The only thing we have is a joint bank account opened 2 years ago !
do you think there would be any problem regarding that?

As long as he is also a PR/citizen, he can be your co-signer if you're common-law. It's not like you are sponsoring him so proof of common-law evidence would be minimal. The Stat Declaration of common-law form is required, and a few joint accounts should be enough.

On a side note, have you both changed your tax status to common-law? If you didn't and are still filing taxes as single, then you would both be committing tax fraud.

i plan to sponsor my parents in 2018. i don't have the income for the last three years to show support but my wife does (we have been married for 4 years now), so when i fill out the initial intent to sponsor application, should i put down my wife's name as principal applicant or mine.

No they are your parents so you must be the primary applicant.
