Citizenship Applications after Bill C-6

Hi All

I have completed 3 years of residency requirement in Canada. But right now I am looking for another job and i may have to move to another province. My question is should i apply for citizenship on 12 October to beat the rush or wait for another 2 months and then apply hopefully settled in my new job.

Switching jobs has nothing to do with your citizenship application! If you are qualified you are qualified. You don't have to be employed to apply!

@spyfy So the CIC website says:

• You must be eligible for citizenship the day before you sign the application.

Does this mean the first day one can send their application off is October 12?

--Just a follow up on this question, at the end of the application form, it says:

IMPORTANT NOTE:
Remember to make sure that you are eligible to apply for citizenship on the day BEFORE you sign this application.

If i moved to another city within Canada after applying will that slow my application due to change in processing office and file transfer.

I am not sure why you guys worry about stamps in your passports? In the Instruction Guide, it clearly says: "Provide photocopies of the biographical pages of all passports and/or travel documents (valid and canceled) for the six (6) year period immediately before the date of your application, or since you became a permanent resident, whichever is more recent." Then it goes further to describe what "biographical pages" mean: "The biographical page means the page that has your name, photo, passport/travel document number, issue date and expiration date."
There is nothing about providing stamps in your passport on the CIC website. Unless I am missing something here, and if I am then please correct me.

You are right but entry and exit stamps and visas are also required, some country may not stamp entry and exit that is okay.

Not at all! You just need to change the address online in your account!

The new rule is coming into effect on Oct. 11. From my understanding, that means we can apply on Oct 11 NOT Oct. 12. Please, correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes you can apply on Oct 11th if you qualify under 3/5 years on Oct 10th

You are right but entry and exit stamps and visas are also required, some country may not stamp entry and exit that is okay.

entry and exit stamps and old passports are ONLY required during the test/interview.

I think he means that if you meet the 3/5 criterion on Oct 10, only then you can apply on Oct 11. If someone needs to count Oct 11 towards satisfying 3/5, then they need to apply the next day which will be Oct 12.

Regardless of your age, you must have been physically present in Canada as a permanent resident for at least:

• 1,460 days during the six years right before the date you sign your application

Plus, how could you apply, if all the forms are posted on Oct 11th??

When the new forms are available on Oct 11, you can only apply on October 11 if you accumulated 1095 days as of October 10.

If you apply before moving you must receive the AOR - receipt of your application at your address in application. Canada post also diverts for 3 months at a charge to new address. Getting AOR in your hand is most important , thereafter you can change address. Make sure you have completed period in the province you applied in you PR application. It may be an issue.
