Hi everyone,

I read on various blogs and checked gov statistics on how soon immigrants find job in Canada. It seems that even after we land there, its not so easy finding job and many ppl especially immigrants live in poverty.

Can somebody who has already been there for a while reply

For me it's the opposite. I always fall sick in the winters and I don't have any motivation to get out of bed. Makes me less productive. In extreme hot climates (Spent a summer in Qatar), I can atleast count on the AC and moving about dries my sweat up.
I found a comrade!! ;)

Contrary to most people here, I've visited Canada on multiple occasions.

The biggest lie is that 12k or 15k is enough to settle down in Canada. Personally, I would not be coming if my savings were not in six-figure digits.

So decide carefully, otherwise you may end up as a security guard on the night shift, and your master's/PhD diploma won't even get you promoted to regular hours.

Immigration is not for the weak. The trials we face now are just the beginning of the challenges we will have. It's a lot easier if you look at it as an adventure with nothing certain from day to day. There will be time to feel settled later.
Very true! Over the last one and a half years I've learned more patience than I ever thought myself capable of ;)

Guys although I appreciate your views, this is Ray of Hope not Ray of Doom.

I believe many people have made a better life for themselves in Canada and there is no evidence to suggest that we can not do the same. Granted it may be tough to begin with, but with patience and hard work, I strongly believe we can make Canada a happy and prosperous home.

What kills me the most is the uncertainty and inability to plan things. I don't mind waiting a couple years if I know that it will take a couple years and then could plan my life around that. At least post ITA you know with more certainty that you will be moving in around 6 months, although of course, anything could happen at any time, including rejection that would throw you back to square one. So we have to keep being prepared for the unexpected, which means inability to make any plans beyond the very short term.
I agree that the hardest thing about immigration is either putting your life on hold or not being able to plan anything properly because you don't even know when the score will fall and you'll get invited to apply.

Post ITA, you at least hope that in the next 6 months you'd be packing your bags and leaving. But then you read posts about those waiting for more than a year for their PPRs and you can't help but shudder!

Good luck to all of us waiting for NOI, ITA, nomination or PPR. May we all land in Canada soon and resume our lives without a care in the world!

Once I accepted the fact that things were going to stay uncertain, it helped me view it as an adventure. Not really possible for those who have kids. But right now, we are expecting things to stay uncertain. Our first month or two in Toronto might be airbnb because we don't want to tie ourselves into a lease.
That's a great perspective! I'm trying to view this as an adventure too - sometimes I succeed, other times I wish the adventure wouldn't last this long!

Best wishes for the journey ahead of you. Hope to see you in Canada some time soon.

Stay realistic and stay on the subject please. If you're coming from some remote continent as Asia, which means no apartment renting references, be prepared to pay a huge deposit, some say, in other threads, that they had been asked to pay deposits worth 3-4 times of their monthly rent. In Ontario it means paying 4-5k upfront, before you have a chance to send out your first resume. So imagine if 12k is all you have and you must pay 5k just to have a place to sleep. You're very likely to end up as a laborer and the government of Canada must know that.

I feel your reference to Asia may be very offensive to some people reading this and is therefore unnecessary.

If the Canadian government says the minimum is sufficient, what qualifies you to say that it is not? Nevertheless, not everyone's experience will be the same. I choose to look at the positive reality which states that the standard of living in Canada is number 2 in the world, and that many people have immigrated successfully, as opposed to the negative side that you are focused on.
