Are you saying IRCC should revamp the POF index?Contrary to most people here, I've visited Canada on multiple occasions.
The biggest lie is that 12k or 15k is enough to settle down in Canada. Personally, I would not be coming if my savings were not in six-figure digits.
So decide carefully, otherwise you may end up as a security guard on the night shift, and your master's/PhD diploma won't even get you promoted to regular hours.
Someone I know from Central EU went back to his home because he can't cope up with the high cost of living in one of the most expensive cities in the world. As a matter of fact, Singapore has been ranked as the most expensive city for expatriates in four consecutive years. On the other hand, a simple lass from a third world country with no six-figure digits savings is having a goddamn good life in this expensive city.Stay realistic and stay on the subject please. If you're coming from some remote continent as Asia, which means no apartment renting references, be prepared to pay a huge deposit, some say, in other threads, that they had been asked to pay deposits worth 3-4 times of their monthly rent. In Ontario it means paying 4-5k upfront, before you have a chance to send out your first resume. So imagine if 12k is all you have and you must pay 5k just to have a place to sleep. You're very likely to end up as a laborer and the government of Canada must know that.
I came here with nothing, not even 5% of the required funds for Canada, and I am proud to tell this community that I have only lived with my optimism of having a better life. As simple as that.
To all my fellow Canadian dreamers, it takes a lot of dedication, determination, self-discipline and effort to make our dreams come into reality. Money isn't everything we need to be successful. As they say, there is no elevator to success, you need to take the stairs.
Anyways, thanks for the heads up, @jon-son, we are all prepared to be poor in Canada and be a laborer.
