Statistics - Duration of stay limited at the border

Hello everyone. Please share your experience - if you came to Canada on TRV as a tourist (i.e. without a host, relatives etc.) was the duration of stay limited by the officer at the border? They can just put a stamp and then you are free to be in Canada up to 6 months, or they can put a date (usually much less than 6 months) by which you have to leave Canada.

My wife's first visit to Canada was 7 days (with a return ticket), travelling with me (non resident Canadian). CBSA gave her an 8 day entry (7 days plus one for emergencies).
Yes they can limit your time in the country and can (and have) refused people entry if they feel they are not genuine tourists. Remember a TRV does not guarantee entry into Canada, it only allows you to travel to Canada.

Please, if you know someone, who entered as a tourist, answer here, did the border guard write the date before which you have to depart under the entry stamp?

Sure - I know lots of people who have gotten dates written in and their stay limited. I also know lots of people who haven't. If I had to guess - I would say that roughly 25% have a date written in and roughly 75% don't. But that's just my guess.

No one can tell you that. The statistics are not published. Anything we say here is a pure and wild guess (including what I've said). None of us work for CIC and have no idea what the answer is - so really pointless to ask.

Just curious to know why you are collating data to derive statistics

To get the idea, what are the chances of being admitted for the long term. I want to live with my partner for some time before we get married.

Every case is unique.

How long you are allowed to remain would depend on the CBSA officer you meet at the POE + if you're able to prove (if asked) that you are a visitor
