Oh nice.. FBI is working fast on it.. This week they have cleared from april 13-19 and I am hoping by EOW they may clear up to April 21
Mine was April 15, they still havent processed the fingerprints. Dont know how long the process takes. Maybe this will give you an idea.

It seems strange to say this but lately Indian Consulates in US are showing great example of government efficiency. My PCC was issued in 2 days for in person applications at SF Consulate. Six months ago my passport renewal was completed in 2 weeks for normal processing and entire process was pretty seamless. Kudos to Indian bureaucracy for showing efficiency.

Now, contrast that with US Government and its services, it takes close to 3 months for FBI to issue PCC. In CA, simple task such as getting DL renewed is now taking 2+ months as no DMV Appointments are available. Even if you go to their office and spend an entire day there, there is no guarantee that you will get it renewed since they now have to check with USCIS for validity of Immigration status and its a black hole of gigantic proportions.

I completely agree on the Indian Consulate Efficiency. It was very difficult to believe the following happened.
1. Called up Indian Consulate in NY - 2 days before visiting & the call was picked up :)
2. Asked about the Police Clearance certificate & the response was prompt on what is required, person speaking knew the stuff without passing the buck :)
3. All details Provided on what documents are required for Police Clearance Certificate.Clear & Concise.
4. Asked about the timing of the consulate & the time during which we need to be physically present. only from 09:00 to 11:00 they accept applications so the timing was the key - no point reaching there late .Physical Presence is required for Passports issued from NY. Passports issues from India may take more time. Same day not possible.
5. Went in on Friday - reached 09:00 AM - Application accepted 09:15 AM . Came out by 11:30 AM with Police Clearance certificate. Please note this arrangement is only for passport issued from the consulate itself.

Only complain - the detail of having copies of passport & other docs was missed. So had to get it done there . However consulate had the Copier arrangement with 50 cents / copy - which was fine.

The second one is at 9:15 am I was told 1 Hour I will get the PCC & I was pleasantly surprised to hear that - but led to a wait time of more than 2 hours. - which was ok - so long as it was done..
I am surprised on how things have changed in Indian Consulate.

For US Citizens and PRs, FBI PCC takes just 5 days or so. The delay is only for others. Sad reality !!!
I don't think so, in the application do we mention that we are aliens / non citizens ?? I dont remember about that application either its been a long time. more than 2 months

Did they charge you credit card? This is strange. Yesterday they processed April 13th for one of my friends.
I sent a standing order not credit card details just to avoid any problems. So I don't know where I am in the process. Honestly, they have slowed down considerably. If we were US citizens or GC holders, this does take just 5 days through their designated companies.

ok. Great..which consulate ? if its issued from India & you got within a day - thats more power to Indian Gov. This is awesome.

Normally they say it takes 2 -4 Weeks because the process is same as checking for Passport when you go for re-issue here.. so they have to get a police clearance. May be if your passport is recently issued or something which led to this .. Anyways its great news my friend.

My credit card was charged on June 26. How many days would they take to mail the report? Also, if the report is lost or not delivered to the address, would they generate another one or do we need to reapply and wait for so many weeks again?

Latest update. They are saying they plan on completing April 17 by today, mail it out by Thursday or Friday.

But it's contingent on the number of applications.

Option 2: Submit Your Request to an FBI-Approved Channeler

  • An FBI-approved Channeler may only process requests for a U.S. person (an individual who is a citizen of the U.S. or a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.). A lawful permanent resident is any person not a citizen of the U.S. who is residing in the U.S. under legally recognized and lawfully recorded permanent residence as an immigrant (also known “Permanent Resident Alien,” “Resident Alien Permit Holder,” and “Green Card Holder”).

+ 1
I got it done through mail and had it in 10 days. There are an error and they rectified it in just 2 days at their cost. I couldn't believe. I remember the pain of getting my first passport and this was just exactly opposite. Yes more power to Indian govt. There are flaws too but slowly and steadily they are becoming more efficient and who doesn't have flaws!
