Hi everyone!

I recently got married to my long time Russian girlfriend/fiancee. We got married in Tbilisi, Georgia in Feb. All marriage documents were translated, apostilled as required and Georgian marriages are recognized in Canada. She is fluent in English, has no criminal record, etc. I know bringing a spouse from Russia to Canada isn't as simple as it used to be because of the ongoing war and poor relations between Russia and Canada. If anyone has a similar situation to mine since Feb 2022-present I would love to get some feedback on how the process went for you. Ideally, I would like to apply for a visitor visa, and then a spousal sponsorship visa to get the ball rolling on PR. Do timelines and requirements defer for Russian citizens now, or is everything fairly identical to how it was in the past?

Thanks in advance, this forum is a great resource to fill in alot of questions I have.

Would start with sponsorship as soon as possible. Without AOR from sponsorship it will reduce the likelihood of TRV approval. You can apply Outland and still be processed while in Canada. Time you have spent together in person and over how many visits will likely have an impact on processing.

There's no or not much evidence I've seen that spousal sponsorship should take longer, apart from possibly security clearances - and that likely only in cases where there's something obvious in background. Other than that, everything the same really.

That said, visitor visa - I concur, may as well apply for that after the spousal sponsorship. Get the spousal app in as soon as you can.

I assume not a quebec application?

I had a similar situation. But a complex application due to custody issues, then Québec made it worse but still it was completed just a bit over a year. But on the other hand we had a very strong application otherwise.
