Indian passport surrender

Here's my situation.

2006 - Indian Passport was issued with 10 year validity.
2011 - Acquired first foreign citizenship.
2016 - Indian Passport renewed for 10 year validity from India.
2020 - Acquired second foreign citizenship.

I've used Indian passport once for traveling since 2006(one trip to India in 2016) and have renewed it once between 2006 till now. The current passport expires in 2026. I would like to surrender and be done once and for all but surely it sounds like opening a can of worms.

I have no idea how much financial penalty they will try to impose as there are no clear rules to deal with this situation. Also, if I just traveled to India in 2026 and renewed the passport I would probably be good for another 10 years but if caught, they will probably try to charge me criminally and detain me in India. Honestly don't know if I'll ever travel to India again but I would like to keep the possibility open.

Please let me know if anyone has been in this situation before and how they navigated.

Hey there! If I do have to travel to India, would you recommend I just get an e-visa? Thanks.

Hey, first post here.

I'm submitting passport surrender on behalf of my wife and wanted to ask if the DD for postal application can be created using my bank account or has to be wifes?

I think the draft has the name of the account holder at the bottom and if that is something that can cause BLS to not process the application.

Thanks in advance.

That is unfortunately the only way when it comes to postal application.
Yes the fees is exorbitant but the only other way to get around it is to drive from Windsor to Brampton, which is not practical as well.

No one on this forum will be able to what is the fee from your place to Brampton. Go with what you have been provided or else maybe give BLS a call again and speak to another customer service rep, maybe you might be offered a different fee for your pick up and drop off.

Does not matter, all what BLS is getting is a payment assured by the financial institution, whether it comes out of your account or somebody else..

Thankyou for the response!
I mentioned the lady over the phone that on BLS website it states otherwise ($40 within provinces) and she said it's been revised and website is under maintenance. So kinda hard to tell when, what and how often they revising on website.

Forum members have got different $$ figures when they have spoke to different customer services members over the phone, so maybe you might get lucky with your next phone call ;)

I'll be surrendering my Indian passport by post.

What's the total amount for the DD?
The BLS website says $117.7 total. On top of that, I've to add $1.7 for return fees. So, the total should be $119.4 on the DD, right?
https://www.blsindia-canada.com/vancouver-jurisdiction/surrender-of-india-citizenship.php

Also, do they pick up and drop off from home, without going to the BLS office?
It's $117.70
They do pickup and drop off from your home but for that you need to schedule pickup by calling customer care. They will provide you payment link for courier services after payment you get the label and good to go.
