The Prime Minister has resigned! Is this good or bad for the case of humanitarian and compassion?

My opinion is that election is likely to be called in the spring so won’t have a big impact. No matter what H&C needs reform because there are 50k applications in processing for general H&C and quota is 10k/yr for all forms of H&C. Numbers don’t work.
In the GCMs notes you can see if you are in the inventory or in an active process. Weak cases are stopped.

There probably will be a lot of new policies by liberals over next couple of months to control immigration using anti-fraud rhetoric. I don't think people of Canada are generally against immigration, but some people will buy it and some won't.

Election probably will get dragged to Fall as NDP's position will change in Spring due to liberals gaining some points. Ultimately, by the time new govt is elected, immigration will be at the bottom again.

So, no - nothing will change.

Polls say otherwise

We are 40M people. Things shift pretty quick and unless the problem is in our very own backyards, we don't tend to care much. By the time election happens, people would have forgotten. I'm pessimistic about immigration reform as Liberals have pushed the country to far left, might as well just elect NDP. Lol

The extremely weak cases (often 2nd attempts) may get “faster” rejection but there is still a significant processing period and requires someone to review the application. Also doesn’t change the fact that in September 2024 there were 50k applications for H&C in processing.

First of all gvt has not pushed Canada to the far left. This Liberal government is certainly more left leaning than other liberal governments that were more centrist. NDP also going to struggle in the next election and due to party finances Conservative will definitely focus on immigration and highly doubt Canadians will forget either. Still a huge concern for Canadians and as it is in many counties. US news coverage alone will remind people about immigration.

Well, he hasn't actually resigned.....yet. That aside, I would, based on recent changes to other immigration programs, expect some changes at a minimum. The whole immigration thing ranks pretty high on the list of Canadian voters. Once the conservatives are voted in (whether it's late spring or early fall), expect them to make some substantial changes to all things immigration....it's high reward with the voters that'll earn a new government an easy early win.
So I'd say, probably not the best scenario, but probably inevitable anyway.

I do not know why you repeatedly suggest that 2nd attempt applicants have weak cases. There are many cases involving families with long term establishment in Canada, children, and extreme hardship/conflict in their country of origin are denied because of bias of some IRCC officers, some receive approval after multiple attempts and waiting for years. At the same time, families from Ukraine are getting approval within short time and after arriving in Canada for few months only. Courts and immigrant organizations have frequently criticized the inconstitency and high discretionary nature of H and C program. IRCC is to blame for multiple applications, because if they establish a process of fair decision making and appeal, that would not happen.

That is simply not true. Inventory CP means application was just received and is at initial stage (criminality check, and information sharing). After background check is finished and the file is assigned to decision maker (eligibility review), application is labelled as in progress CP in GCMS notes, and will show in process on eCAS. This has nothing to do with strength of the cases.
