It's a tricky question. Not much info available on the forum. The problem is without proof everyone will start saying they don't have any. Better call and check with BLS if they ok with only the declaration.

Had a call with BLS and the representative said to sign the declaration form and mention that Applicant never had voter id / ration card in the form itself. They don't require any proof

So did i called up two times, had two varied responses. One told only declaration, and another one said need to attach evidence. Whom should i trust.

I am sure with passage of time Indian Govt will clarify this more and we may have some better guidance, at this moment its only chaos.

OCI Minor. Exactly 2 months to receive via Purolator. Walk in at BLS Vancouver. Hope this helps someone here.

Ya, same thing happened with me as well. Got different response each time I connected with BLS support team. So I will wait for another one week to see if my record gets deleted. At least for me, the status changed from submitted to BLO ASSIGNED. My wife’s record is still showing the status as submitted.

Good at least you have both EPIC no.s , my spouse EPIC has no record so likely has been deleted and I have to just say no record exists.

I’m in same boat as many of you guys
I never had a voter id in India
I did have name on ration card.
I contacted my family to delete my name from ration card and they said ration cards are no longer a valid identification document. They went to the food and supply department to ask them if they can delete it from ration card. They replied the same that ration cards are not valid anymore. These days there is a document called Family ID. So you have all family members information on family ID. So my question is that the self declaration form only says to remove or surrender the voter id and ration card. Do I need to delete my name from family ID as well because this is the document that replaced ration cards. If anyone has any information please share it. Thanks!

Called BLS Brampton today. They mentioned that they need confirmation from ECI that record got deleted. They can’t just accept the acknowledgment of Form 7. They asked me to wait for one week as generally the record gets deleted in that much time and confirmation is sent by ECI post that. When I asked on whether they know if ECI sends a mail or how they confirm back to applicants on record deletion to that they said they don’t know. I hope ECI sends a note which I can use to take it to BLS. Anyone else knows any confirmation email sent by ECI? Not sure if any one mentioned here on the same hence asking..!!

Not sure if this information helps. I am not sure if BLS brampton is asking for new acknowledgement docs for voter cancelation. As far as I know they only ask for declaration which is needed to be submitted physically signed as well as uploaded while filling online application.


I had an issue canceling my voter ID as website has a glitch. It did not work any ways for me. So I did that asking my father to submit it on my behalf by filling form 7. Please note that form 7 has option whether a person can apply for cancelation by self or any other relative can also apply. It has the related options to check. It actually took lot of efforts and approach honestly as you know it can't get done so easily. I applied in last week of November 2024. And after 2 weeks they send a verification doc to inform ECI if someone has any objectio s. There is no need to do anything once the doc is received and after 3 weeks from apply I realized that I have no details left on ECI for my voter ID. It's done. I applied for OCI on 27th Nov 2024 and on 24th Dec 2024 My doc has been processed for printing. Hope this info helps.

It's okay if you want to wait. But not needed. What i did was i applied for cancelation and and submitted application for oci declaring the same. That's the only part we need to take care of. If ECI doesn't cancels the voter I'd for 2 months that must not stop us to apply for OCI. In my case it took 3 weeks as my father applied physically in India on my behalf. I kept on checking eci . In the meantime yesterday my OCI was also approved and sent for printing.

I am highly doubtful if consulate even bothers to check our voter I'd cancelation. Applied status is enough to submit application for OCI. That's my thought.
