Yes I am applying outside Canada and my closed work permit was refused on the basis that my proposed job offer does not tally with what where I currently work. My proposed job offer is a sales associate and I currently work in a financial institution in marketing department which is sales related as well, I don’t know why they said it’s not related

Also I have sent a detail LOE through webform on this PR application as well to address the reason for my cwp refusal even though I heard that that CWP and PR are different application

Hi @Miss bee hope you are doing well. I have a question from my sister-in-law. She got lmia in April 2023 and it was for two years. But as her passport was valid only till 9th January 2025, it was stamped only till the validity of her passport, that is 9th January 2025. She got Alberta PNP in the 1st week of August 2024 and applied for her PR on 24th August, 2024 but is still awaiting AOR, which is expected to come by February 2025. So, she will lose her status in the current situation on 9th January 2025.
Please guide me what options she has at this stage. Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

So, she will lose her status in the current situation on 9th January 2025.
Please guide me what options she has at this stage. Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.
1. Apply for a Work Permit Extension with a New Passport
Since her LMIA is valid for two years, she can renew her passport and apply to extend her work permit before it expires on January 9, 2025. She will need the new passport details to request the extension. Applying before the expiry will allow her to maintain implied status until a decision is made.

2. Apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP)
Once she receives her AOR for the PR application (expected by February 2025), she may be eligible to apply for a BOWP. However, since the AOR might come after January 9, 2025, she will need to ensure she maintains her status through other means (e.g., the extension in point 1) until then.

3. Switch to a Visitor Status
If extending her work permit isn’t feasible before January 9, 2025, she can apply to change her status to that of a visitor. This will allow her to remain in Canada legally while awaiting her PR AOR. However, as a visitor, she cannot work.

4. Restore Status (if Necessary)
If her status expires before she can take action, she may be able to apply to restore her status within 90 days of losing it. Restoration would allow her to resume her work permit or change to another status. However, it’s better to act before her work permit expires.

Suggested Immediate Actions:
• Renew her passport as soon as possible.
• Apply for a work permit extension well before January 9, 2025, using the LMIA and new passport details
• Monitor her PR application status for updates, especially for the AOR.

Hi everyone,

I need some help understanding how to fill out the Supplementary Information - Travels section of my immigration application.

I am a citizen of Pakistan and lived in the United States for several years for studies before moving to Canada, where I currently reside. During this time, I traveled to another country for tourism and also visited Toronto for a short trip before moving to Canada.

My questions are:
  1. Should I include trips back to my country of origin (Pakistan) in this section?
  2. Does my move from the U.S. to Canada count as a "trip," or is it considered a change in residence?
  3. Do I need to list only trips to countries other than Pakistan, the U.S., and Canada?
I want to ensure the form is filled out correctly and appreciate any guidance you can provide!

Thank you

You’re correct that a Closed Work Permit (CWP) application and a Permanent Residence (PR) application are different, but they can sometimes influence each other, particularly if the reasoning for a refusal overlaps or is misunderstood in the PR context.

Why Your CWP Was Refused
The refusal may stem from how the immigration officer interpreted the relationship between your current job (marketing in a financial institution) and your proposed job offer (sales associate). While marketing and sales can overlap in skills, the officer may have determined that they are distinct enough to question whether you meet the requirements for the sales associate role. This often happens if the job description or supporting documentation doesn’t clearly demonstrate transferable skills.

Steps You Took
It’s a positive step that you sent a detailed Letter of Explanation (LOE) through a webform for your PR application. Even though CWP and PR are separate, providing context is a good way to clarify any potential misunderstandings.

1. Explain Skill Overlap:
Emphasize the transferable skills between your marketing role and the sales associate position. For example:
• Both involve client engagement, understanding customer needs, and achieving sales targets.
• Highlight specific achievements or tasks from your current role that align with the job offer (e.g., closing deals, upselling, customer relationship management).

2. Provide Supporting Evidences
If not already done, attach additional documents like:
• A detailed reference letter from your current employer, emphasizing sales-related responsibilities.
• A breakdown of how your past experience aligns with the job duties listed in the offer.

3. Clarify the Employer’s Role:
If the job offer includes an LMIA, ensure the employer has clearly defined the job requirements and confirmed that your skills meet those requirements.

4. Acknowledge the Separation of Applications:
In your LOE, state that you understand the CWP and PR applications are separate, but you are addressing this to provide transparency and avoid misunderstandings.

5. Consider Reapplying for CWP:
If the job offer is still valid, consider reapplying for the Closed Work Permit with a stronger LOE and additional evidence addressing the officer’s concerns.

PR Application Impact
While the CWP refusal does not automatically affect your PR application, the reasoning behind the refusal might raise questions about your work experience or job alignment. Sending the LOE ensures that you’ve proactively clarified the situation.

It is understandably frustrating to experience delays in your PR application, especially after submitting it on May 12, 2024, and receiving your Acknowledgment of Receipt (AOR) and Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL) on August 19, 2024. Although your BIL was later updated due to previously submitted biometrics for your earlier closed work permit application, the lack of further updates, including a Medical Instructions Letter (MIL) or medical request, can feel concerning. Typically, a medical request is issued early in the process if medicals were not submitted with the application or if an updated examination is needed. However, the absence of an MIL may suggest that IRCC has already linked valid medicals to your file or that your application is still in the eligibility or background screening stages. At seven months since submission, your case is slightly beyond the average processing timeline for many PR applications, but delays can occur due to various factors, including application complexity, the volume of cases IRCC is processing, or additional scrutiny arising from previous refusals.

To address this, it is advisable to take proactive steps to gain clarity on your application’s status. You can submit a webform inquiry to IRCC, requesting an update and confirming whether any additional documents or steps are required. Additionally, you can request your GCMS (Global Case Management System) notes, which provide detailed insights into your application’s progress and highlight any issues or pending stages, such as eligibility or security checks. If you are in Canada, you can also call IRCC directly at 1-888-242-2100
