Hello everyone,

I’m in the process of renewing my U.S. B1/B2 visa. I received my Refugee Travel Document a month ago (PR is the process), but my old passport with the U.S. visa is still at the Canadian immigration office. What can I do in this situation?

Do you think that they will give me the visa without the old passport ?

Hard to say if it will be considered a renewal given your significant change in circumstances.

They already have all your information regarding your old passport, old visa and the fact that you are a refugee- it is normal that you don't have your old passport. That is the immigration process for refugees in Canada and they know that.

You'll need to apply for the visa again and it is up to the US embassy if they will give you an 'extension' of your old visa on your national passport or not, it really is a case by case basis and your individual circumstances, you will find examples here of all the possibilities.

While info sharing, your previous US visa will be revoked. You'll receive an email from your country's USA embassy written that "Please be informed that your B1/B2 visa was revoked by the Department of State in pursuant to section 221(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. Additionally, if you intend to travel to the United States again in future, you need to apply for a new visa, and the interviewing Consular Officer will determine your eligibility for the visa at that time. The Americans already know about your situation.
You claiming asylum changed your profile . You’ll have to see if that situation is changed enough to get a visa or not
Won’t be automatic

Yes I received. I did not do illegal crossing or something. I came to Canada directly from home country legally. Still my visa cancelled. I got the new one on my rtd.

Do you get this email when you apply again for US visa on RTD?
