Age gap between myself and spouse

hello All,
I am having an arrange marriage, i came to canada 11 years ago and now I am 40, because of work and building life here, I didnt think about marriage but now my family has found a girl but she is 18years younger than me she is 21 years old, both families have no issues with it.

I am wondering if you have seen or experienced any such cases where there was significant age gap and no issues arose for their spousal application.

From your question, it sounds like you have doubt with this large age gap. I mean the mind set of a 40 years old is very different from a 21 years old. That's almost 2 decades of generation gap.

If your gut feeling is not good, don't do it.

IRCC may ask for more proof to show that the marriage is genuine. I am sure there are cases that's been approved.

For you, it's the risk of getting a young bride to Canada and you have the undertaking of 3 years even if the relationship breaks up (in case) and there is no real way to make sure the sponsored PA will stay in the relationship after getting PR.

Oh. btw. I am not saying a definite no. I myself and my spouse has 15 years age gap but we spent a few years together before we got married and then I sponsored him. (inland)
And we had no issue. I am not sure if arranged marriage will go through the same check with little time spent before and after marriage in person.

May be arranged to spend more time in person with her before and after the marriage and make sure that works?
Talk to her on the phone/apps/video calls before and continue after wedding and before she moves to Canada.

Feel bad for the poor woman. Highly doubt this would happen if immigration wasn’t on the table. Wasn’t there a 25-30 yr old eligible woman? For longterm marriage success you’d think this age gap would not be a good idea for an arranged marriage. Sorry personal opinion. Yes I would expect extra scrutiny especially in an arranged marriage. Doesn’t mean application will be denied but should be a consideration when selecting a spouse.

well, i am already divorced 8 years ago, previous women i was married to in India before coming here refused to move with me when i was gettting PR 7 years ago, so I gave up and now here I am again, also i see few specific countries with certain religious belief bringing very young brides with 20+ age gap, 50males 22 female. I see them here in Canada,

well thank you for sharing your own but in my case its only possible to live together if she gets tourist which is not possible right now as it will waste at least one year and if the TRV gets refused and then i apply for spouse it will be a negative impact on application as far i have found.

I have no issues with her coming here and ditching me as its arranged marriage.

There have been some significant age gaps on this forum. Certainly there are people who have been successful in getting sponsorship approved.

Before you apply for sponsor her, you will want to make sure you complete all of the typical / full ceremonies that happen with an arraged wedding including the engagement, marriage iself, any other religious ceremonies related to the marriage.

I equally feel sorry for those young women who likely wouldn’t have chosen to marry someone with such an age difference especially at the young age.

You should care you’ll be financially responsible for her for 3 years if she claims welfare and would likely have to pay alimony at least temporarily.

TRV refusal usually don't affect spousal sponsorship as long as it's declared in the application. (do not try to hide since IRCC knows)

And if she gets TRV then you can spend time with her while the sponsorship application is in progress.

At the very least, make sure all the proper cultural ritual and ceremony are preform for the wedding/marriage to deem complete.
Spend time before and after the wedding (even if it's just weeks/days) and continue communication with phone, mobile apps and video calls and keep records.

I still don't get why you are OK if your new wife will leave right after she becomes PR.

The age difference isn't an issue if you are both consenting adults, and it sounds like she wanted to go the arranged route as well, so congratulations! So, my husband sponsored me, and I’m from the States, they needed proof that our relationship is real. We uploaded tons of photos—wedding pics, shots with family, and moments of us doing things together. We also included some screenshots of our early conversations and when we swapped phone numbers. My sister and his best friend, who were both at the wedding, wrote letters supporting our relationship to show it’s genuine and not just for immigration. This is called The Proof of Relationship Support Letter, it only needs to be about two paragraphs long, Google and ChatGPT can guide you through the process. We provided our marriage license, too. Proof of some kind of support is helpful- he added me to his phone plan, so our names are together there as well. If you’re renting, you might want to ask your landlord about adding your future wife to the lease; it shouldn’t cost extra. That’s pretty much everything we used as proof and it was sufficient. Also, note: I was inside Canada on a visitors visa and we had been married for 4 months when we started the spousal sponsorship application. That's why the phone plan and adding me to the lease was done. I am not sure if those two things helped their decision, but our attorney advised us that proof of sharing financial responsibilities is good to submit with the application. Sharing a bank account is the best proof, but since I didn't have residency status here, a bank would not allow me to join and they won't allow your fiance to join either since that is also her situation.
