Hello there,
I am sure this has been discussed but I still wanted to clarify to be certain.
I have a large number of implied status days (acquired during COVID time when it took forever to process documents). About 140 days. I really don't want to waste 70 days extra to apply for citizenship if it isn't necessary. Do implied status days count towards physical presence? If I count them - I am at a 1106 days.
My situation is very simple - never refused any visas, every time I applied for a new status BEFORE the old one expired and the new one permits were always approved. For example, when my study permit was expiring, I applied for work permit before it expired and received said work permit 100 days AFTER the study permit expired (because of COVID delays), so status was always legally 'maintained'. Can I just used these implied status days as "study permit days" until the work permit was issued??
This is what I found on IRCC website in regards to this:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/visitors/implied-status-extending-stay.html
"All temporary residents have an automatically imposed condition that they must leave Canada at the end of their authorized period of stay. However, as per section R181, a temporary resident may apply to extend their period of authorized stay before it ends. If they have done so, their period of authorized stay as a temporary resident is extended by law until a decision is made [R183(5)]. Such a person is considered to have legal status as a temporary resident during the processing period."
Thank you for your help in advance.
