Hey, I'm also from Iran and have a PhD, been waiting for my BG since last October. I have no idea what their selection criteria is for security check. My work made me apply for a US visa (which I was obviously refused) and I thought that might be the reason, then I saw people with green card application getting their citizenship in 4 months. I know an Iranian phd guy who works in nuclear and got his citizenship in 3 months.
Soooo basically it seems like my theory is wrong! I am no longer doing any nuclear physics research. I have no clue how they decide this kind of thing. It is so annoying!

lol. It's funny. I'm an Iranian with a PhD working as a researcher. I've been a member of the waiting club since July 2022. Recently, I contacted a lawyer and he started the writ of mandamus process.
sounds like my nationality and my research filed put me in this situation. Let see what gonna happen and I'll keep you all posted.

Ugh this is so unacceptable. So it seems like having a PhD and being from Iran is definitely a factor to increase the likelihood of being sucked into a blackhole of the citizenship process.
It kind of feels racist if you ask me. But unfortunately it is nothing new for us ...

This part of the forum is for citizenship applications, not visitor visa....

I received the GCMS notes that I ordered. So basically nothing changed except they updated the deadlines that were in the document!! hahahahaha What is the point of having deadlines if they mean nothing?
Oh and my secondary office is still CPC-Sydney. Nothing has changed at all.

Sorry to hear that, I can't imagine having to wait two years for a process that normally takes a few months. I've heard good things about mandamus, I am sure you hear a decision soon.

I've been ordering them basically every month and my SS is waaay past the deadline, the only thing that has changed is my primary office! For some reason they changed it from Niagara to Montreal!!

Hi Folks,

Any updates from anyone? Is the timeline for Security Clearance still 13 months or has it increased as usual? Do you know?

Honestly it really depends on who do you ask. Some people got their whole process done in 3 months it seems

Having any sort of advanced degree almost always triggers a deeper dive when it comes to security. PhDs even more so. Add certain nationalities to the mix, and well, here you are.

Till last month the timeline seemed to have lingered between 12-13 months for people stuck in SS for long, but tbh I haven't seen much update this month so looks like it has slowed down even further unfortunately

Hey Guys, I needed some of your help if you have any idea about my app status?
App Submitted -19 April 2024
AOR - 24 April 2024
Tracker - 26 April 2024
1st GU - 13 June 2024
Test Invite - 15 June 2024 while background check is still in progress. I see that this rarely happens with people and such apps take a lot of time to complete (around 9 - 12 months). I know its too early to think of things but just little anxious and am feeling that this is the beginning of the long wait. Is anyone else also in the same boat ? It will help to keep in touch.
