Need help: Student Visa and SOWP via SDS

Spouse’s work permits are not guaranteed if you are approved. Your study permit may be approved because your tie to return is your spouse. Strong reasons to return are family. So you need to show strong ties to return if you both want to come (jobs, income properties, business, investments etc.). If you are taking a Masters/Phd then spouse has a better chance of approval. For funds, you need to show $26k in living expenses so you are using all your savings to come to Canada. You will want to show how the program will give you more financial benefits/higher pay to justify the costs.

Today. Applicaitons may not be processed together so depending where you live SOWP can take many months. Even with study permit processing times of 9 weeks (non SDS but look at that time) you are cutting it close.

Im applying for SDS from india and my husband for sowp (afghan national living in india for 5 years). We were common law partners for over a year and now newly weds. What would be the processing times for both visas applied together? Also does his nationality affect the processing times as he's applying from india?

I cannot tell you processing times. They may or may not be processed together. His nationality can place a part because he will need background checks for Afghanistan and India as well as other countries. SOWPs for spouses are not guaranteed. Make sure your funds meet minimum requirements, show strong ties to return and can justify costs of education with career/education advancement.
