Me and my wife got stuck in India during COVID for more than 183 days in 2021 before getting the PR so we need to get the police verification done as per the citizenship reqt, but I have a situation.

My family lived in Mumbai and that's what i have on my passport as my permanent address in India.
However, my parents sold the house and moved permanently to Jalandhar in 2020.

I believe if i apply for the police verification through BLS (is there any other option?), the request would go to the nearest police station in Mumbai based on my address on the passport and thats an issue as none of my family member lives in Mumbai.
Has anyone experienced something similar and guide how i should go about it ?

Thanks a lot.

You were in India before or after getting PR?

Before getting the PR. When we were stuck (Feb 2021 to Aug 2021) our PR application was in progress under Canadian experience stream and we had gotten our police verification done for that.
It was ok for that as I had my brother living in Mumbai and he got things coordinated.

Now I need to provide police verification if I lived outside in last 5 years for more than 183 days and don't have anyone in Mumbai taking care of that.

You don't need a police certificate if the 183 days were spent in your home country immediately prior to come to Canada as a PR.
Look here for the source : https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/application/application-forms-guides/guide-0002-application-canadian-citizenship-under-subsection-5-1-adults-18-years-older.html#Step3
I was already physically in Canada since 2019. So I am using the 1/2 days before my PR and then the 2 years after getting PR to complete the 3 years requirement.

The question on the citizenship states during last 5 years were you away from Canada for more than 183 days which I was in this case and hence need a police certificate.

This is my understanding of the question. Am I incorrect ?

Ah, dunno if the home country thing applies for people who applied for their PR from Canada, and then went back for said home country and stayed there for 6 months in a row.
I'll let others answer this, but if I'm not mistaken, if you provided an Indian PCC before your PR got approved that included those days, you should be good to go without one now.

Also, please note it's 183 days in a row in the 4 years prior to the application, not 5. Doesn't change much since it was in 2021, within the 4 years, but still good to know :)

Ya I wish the period was overlapping and unfortunately it's not and I have to get this done somehow.

Going through the BLS stuff is a pain.
