Help, "Will your spouse/common-law partner accompany you to Canada?"

Hi friends, I was drawn by CEC and would like to proceed with my application.
A question asks, "Will your spouse/common-law partner accompany you to Canada? (required) ". I am not sure if I should choose Yes or No. My common-law partner is Canadian, he is already working in Canada. I assume I should choose NO? As I am not sponsoring him, he is not sponsoring me either. Am I correct?

It is asking about "accompany", isn't he here with you? The ques is not about sponsor, its about him being here with you.

My partner is also Canadian. What I did was include him in my count of family members, say he was not accompanying, and then put 'Canadian citizen' in the follow up question of 'Why isn't he accompanying?'. My application was recently approved, so this was apparently acceptable, although I did have to put a bunch of information about him (I was asked to prove he has a Canadian relative living in Canada with his birth certificate, father's passport, father's utility bills etc. which I'm sure was completely irrelevant to my application). I have no idea if it was IRCC's intention.

I do not think your partner should be 'accompanying' because then they'll consider him part of the application and want medicals and such.

I've seen some comments that perhaps a Canadian partner is not supposed to be included in your family size when you fill out the EE information originally, and maybe that would simplify things, but when I filled that out it said to include your partner, so I followed the instruction.

Tl:dr I have no idea what you're actually supposed to do, I just answered everything truthfully and then submitted the excessive documents they asked for afterward. The system doesn't seem well set up for this situation.

But seriously, father's passport and utility bills? Did you see these as required supporting documents when you proceeded to the next step (after finishing the questionnaire)?
Could I ask how did you partner get all his travel history (entry and exit Canada?) Canada Border's website says it can take up to 30 days to give us the report... But IRCC is asking for these information now and I only have 55 days to submit my PR application...

Yes, the following page asked for supporting documents to show his relationship to his family member, and their status.

For the travel history, we just figured it out ourselves. (But that might depend on how many trips your partner has been on and how good a calendar they keep...)

could I ask one more question? Did IRCC ask for your partner’s parents travel history?

No, they essentially asked us to fill out the family form and schedule A for both myself and for him. Not for any of our family though. And then since some people get points for Canadian relatives it asked both of us to prove our Canadian relatives even though I got no points for it. (I rung IRCC to ask if I could just upload a letter saying that this doesn't contribute to my score and isn't a minimum requirement so it's not needed, but the agent said they didn't know, and their best advice was to try and get the documentation. I also couldn't find anything online indicating it could be ignored like CEC funds can.)

Thanks for your answer! I am surprised to see IRCC didn't know your question... So when IRCC asked for your partner's family/relative info/documents, did you submit the scan of their PR/passport? Or just fill out the forms? I wonder what documents IRCC needs for this...

I submitted my partner's passport, long form birth certificate, his father's passport, and his father's utility bills. I strongly suspect they did not need any of it aside from my partner's passport to show he's a citizen. But I couldn't find any way to confirm this.

Are your parents’ Canadian too? So I guess IRCC is asking for every Canadian family’s document. My dad is not Canadian and he has no passport I hope IRCC will not ask for his document. (I haven’t proceed to the next step, so I don’t know what documents IRCC really needs yet)

Hi trampolinegirl and Konata1221, I have the same situation with you guys too. But I am confused and still wanna confirm with you. Trampoline girl, you said your partner’s mom and dad are Canadian, but you only provided your partner’s dad’s passport but not your partner’s mom’s passport?

Yes. The question was 'does he have a Canadian relative?' and I said 'Yes, a parent.' So both documents did not seem to be necessary when asked to prove it.

I saw someone who posted and did not provide proof of relationship to my Canadian spouse. The question is there for points to be awarded for having a relative in Canada.

He just added an LOE saying that based on the details my partner is not an accompanying spouse and that he is not receiving points and can't for family members in canada

he got approved a month after I think, I'm doing the same thing and submitting today
